Service Line Strategic Resource Lead – UK&I Resource Management - Perm - London

In this pivotal role, you will be part of the UK and Ireland (UK&I) Resource Management Team which is recognised as an integral enabler to the growth of business.

As the Strategic Resource Lead, you will be the key senior relationship within a Service Line (SL) Resourcing team, partnering with SL Leadership to deliver the resource management service and drive related strategic priorities.

The opportunity

  • This is a strategic partnering role in our Tax practice where you will influence and define workforce mix; capabilities; future operating models and workforce plans to deliver the strategic goals of the Service Line (SL)

  • You will use a commercial mind-set to drive productivity and profitability in how our engagement teams are resourced, leading on interventions to improve performance

  • With your Resource management expertise, you will be an integral part of the SL Operations team, working closely with the COO, Operations Director, Head of Finance and Talent Leader to deliver the goals and priorities of the SL

  • You will be responsible for managing the resource management service for circa 1,300 client serving staff in the UK&I Tax practice across multiple locations

  • You will lead the Tax Resourcing team which comprise of circa ten people up to Senior Manager

  • You will be a key member of the UK& Resource Management Leadership team

  • You will report to the UK&I Head of Resourcing

Your key responsibilities

Drive and manage resourcing performance

  • Provide strategic insight to SL Leadership on business performance

  • Proactively drive, influence and implement performance improvement initiatives

  • Final point of escalation on all resourcing matters for the SL

  • Track and influence productivity metrics to drive performance across the year

  • Play a key role in shaping productivity and headcount in annual planning process

Lead on Effective Workforce Planning

  • Understand the longer term view of demand and work with SL Leadership to design appropriate operating model scenarios e.g. mix of skills, contingent workers, offshore solutions for the SL

  • Lead on initiatives and workforce projects with SL leadership to respond to the changing environment e.g. apprenticeships

  • Provide strategic consulting to SL Leadership to inform and aid recruitment decisions on headcount trends including anticipated pipeline and growth areas

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the macro and micro circumstances impacting deployment and utilisation; influence SL Leadership to drive actions accordingly

Anticipate and Plan for Demand

  • Earlier identification of future demand at bid/tender stages to influence, plan and deliver the best resourcing solutions

  • Alignment to our growth platforms and new business areas to ensure the business is best equipped with the right resources

Continually Assess and Improve Supply

  • Lead and provide strategic input on initiatives to shape our future workforce mix e.g. automation; offshore; contingent; other flexible solutions

  • Lead and provide strategic input on initiatives to address supply gaps and improve capability through upskilling and training; recruitment; contingent; apprenticeships; etc.

  • Drive strategies to optimise the use of offshoring across the SL

Lead Experience Management Initiatives

  • Lead and provide strategic input on talent initiatives to support the development of our people and their skills to meet our requirements e.g. D&I, flexible working; skill searches

Lead an Exceptional Team

  • Provide senior leadership across the wider UK&I Resourcing function and help shape the priorities and functional scorecard

  • Provide leadership to the SL Resourcing team and set the SL Resourcing strategy

  • Lead and participate in Resource function team meetings, performance, recruitment and training to develop the function

Skills and attributes for success

  • Ability to understand the wider strategy and priorities and lead projects that drive change

  • Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders within SL Leadership e.g. COO

  • Confident and resilient to deal with challenges from the business

  • Good interpersonal skills and able to consult with a wide range of people at different levels

  • Proactive communicator and willing to share information

  • Exercises good judgement, knows when to flag issues and when to deal with independently

To qualify for the role you must have

  • At least ten years’ experience in a commercial resourcing, recruitment or operational business partnering environment

  • Strong financial and business acumen to understand the impact of headcount, margin and revenue targets to optimise productivity

  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in workforce planning and delivery of strategies to drive performance

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Professional services experience
