The Assurance team at EY Johannesburg is looking for a senior who can manage a portfolio of clients and be responsible for the timeliness and quality of the work as per EY Global Standards for our Financial Accounting and Advisory Services (FAAS) team. Within EY's Assurance service line, FAAS professionals provide advisory services encompassing accounting and regulatory support on accounting change and special matters; accounting processes and controls support (remediation, long-term contract accounting and cost accounting); GAAP conversion and implementation; IPO and other public offering assistance; and transaction accounting and financial reporting assistance (purchase price allocation).

Job purpose

The Associate Director will be responsible for working closely with FAAS Leadership, Partners, Associate Directors, Senior Managers and Managers on client engagements across Africa and EMEIA. She/he will provide technical support, grow the FAAS portfolio and coach FAAS Managers.

The Associate Director should have extensive experience in FAAS related services. She/he is also expected to display a high level of technical knowledge in IFRS. While the Associate Director will be based out of our Johannesburg office, she/he will be required to travel to other countries (medium to long term) to lead client service teams.


Your client responsibilities

Manage quality of service delivery

  • Lead multiple client engagement teams and ensure exceptional quality service.

  • Act as a IFRS subject matter resource for one or more FAAS solutions:

  • Financial Accounting and Reporting Excellence

  • Accounting Processes

  • Regulation, Governance and Financing

  • Audit remediation and readiness

  • Organizing and providing technical training

  • Addressing service delivery quality issues if and when they occur

Manage and develop people

  • Conduct FAAS team performance reviews, serve as a positive leader and mentor, and contribute to the team performance

  • Identify development opportunities and training needs for high performing Managers and assistant managers

Manage business and clients

  • Actively support the Africa or EMEIA FAAS leadership both in terms of growth as well as quality initiatives

  • Enhance relationships with global teams and leverage connections to identify opportunities for work

Your people responsibilities

Will be responsible for managing and developing people.

Competencies / Skills:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA)

  • 7 - 10 years (post qualification) in auditing or finance controllership roles including at least 5 years of Financial Accounting Advisory experience

  • Expert Knowledge of IFRS and International auditing standards.

  • Extensive working experience in relation to the following services/solutions:

a) GAAP conversions and implementation of new accounting standards

b) Drafting and designing accounting policies

c) Technical accounting research and advice

d) Consolidation and Compilation support

e) Financial statement close process support

f) Transaction accounting and reporting – IPO’s , Carve Outs , PPA etc

g) Audit remediation and readiness

h) Benchmarking services and market analysis

i) Advanced data analytics (will be an added advantage)

  • strong management skills to lead teams, delegate appropriately, mentor, review performance and counsel employees

  • strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills

  • ability and comfort level in researching client inquires and emerging issues, including regulations, industry practices and new technologies

  • Industry Sector specialization will be an added advantage

  • International work experience will have added advantage
