Business Modelling Senior Manager - EY Dublin

Summary of role

One of the core areas of focus for the Valuation & Business Modelling team is Decision Support. The Decision Support team works with major listed clients, commercial semi-states, SMEs and fast growth entrepreneurial companies to improve the quality of their decisions and decision-making processes. Our work with clients often involves multiple stakeholders and high degrees of complexity, uncertainty and optimality - decision making in this environment requires strong client handling and consultative skills, rigorous analytical techniques and smart business modelling.

Key areas of growth for our Decision Support team include:

  • Developing financial forecasting models

  • Large assignments where the management and interrogation of large datasets is key to the successful delivery of clients strategic goals

  • Providing the financial advisory role for both buyers and suppliers on complex procurement programmes, especially in the field of technology-enabled business transformation

  • Helping clients implement strategic decision support solutions, typically covering strategic options, investment appraisal and business cases

Most of our client engagements are multi-disciplinary, drawing on a number of other service lines within our Irish and global practice and where the Decision Support team may either be leading such engagements, or be a part of another team.

With the continuing growth in our business we are looking to strengthen our team at Assistant Director-level through the addition of a number of individuals with Decision Support skills to support clients in their strategic and operational decision making processes. These are very exciting roles within a growing area of our business, combining management skills, business acumen and a strong knowledge of relevant modelling and business analysis techniques. Technical skills requirements

Suitable candidates will:

  • Typically have a background in the one or more of the major components of the decision support environment with hands-on business modelling experience. While most of our client engagements are underpinned by some amount of business modelling, in this role, the emphasis is less about the individual's ability to execute business models themselves and more about their ability to lead engagements with clients, within which they may commission complex business modelling solutions from the wider team as an analysis tool for informing the wider engagement

  • Be able to show excellent inter-personal, client management and team-building skills

  • Enjoy working in an environment where there are multiple stakeholders, uncertainty and complex decisions being made

  • Have robust analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and analytics tools such as Python, SQL, Tableau and/or Spotfire/Alteryx

Commercial acumen is essential and candidates should have a high level of business awareness, a strong understanding of the kinds of factors that drive financial and operational performance, and a natural interest in using their knowledge and experience to help clients better understand their business, and make better business decisions.

Suitable candidates will demonstrate a strong portfolio of experience of operating in a senior managerial / leading role in the following areas:

  • Complex, large bid, environments (either buy-side, or sell/supply-side) such as long-term technology-enabled transformation

  • Complex long-term contracts

  • Making optimal use of people, facilities or equipment

  • Understanding the operational impact of change or disruption to their business

  • Working in a strategic or operational decision-making environment, typically covering:

  • Strategic options and strategic planning

  • Investment appraisal and business case development

  • Corporate business development

  • Strategic business performance management

  • Planning, scheduling and rostering of people and facilities

  • Simulation of physical operations and business processes

  • Building, or commissioning and managing the building of, business modelling solutions to underpin the decision-making process

  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams

  • Engaging with senior stakeholders

Working in one or more of the following:

  • Professional services environment

  • Government sector

  • Industry, e.g. technology, utilities

In addition:

  • A recognised accountancy or finance qualification or MBA would generally be an advantage,

  • The team is based in Dublin and Cork, but may require some level of travel within Ireland or overseas.
