The opportunity

As a Payroll & Accounting Manager, you’ll spend most of your time to strategise and develop EY’s payroll operate business in Singapore with the aim to increase market share and awareness. Managing financials of portfolio of clients e.g. review debtors and WIP lists and take appropriate actions. Also, you’ll manage and groom a team of high performing individuals to deliver outstanding payroll and accounting services to our clients. You’ll be a key member of the team, committed to supporting the team in building and maintaining relationships with clients.

Your key responsibilities

  • Manage a team of payroll & accounting professionals, supervise and coach team members

  • Involve actively in business development and coordinating with the partner to carry out marketing plans for the department. Actively develop and grow the business

  • Establish and maintain effective relationship and partnership with clients and team members

  • Provide exceptional client service ensuring clients receive prompt responses to requests and queries

  • Proactive in staff recruitment, mentoring, development and career path planning for the staff

  • Provide and organize formal training for staff

  • Payroll

  • Monitor staff costing and participate in budget and forecasting exercises

  • Ensure timely, accurate and high quality payroll compliance deliverables

  • Ensure all payroll computations and submissions to authorities comply with local statutory requirements

  • Manage and meet all agreed key performance indicators set by clients

  • Plan and implement payroll onboarding activities, payroll processes and other payroll initiatives

  • Provide payroll related advice to client

  • Keep updated with best HR practices and ensuring compliance with local statutory requirements

  • Accounting

  • Responsible for ensuring that commitments to clients are followed up in a timely manner and to continually engage with clients

  • Review draft deliverables completed by team members

  • Manage financials of portfolio of clients e.g. review debtors and WIP lists and take appropriate

  • Meet prospective clients and prepare fee proposals, including follow-through until the job is accepted or rejected

  • Participate in the preparation and discussion of budgets and monthly forecasts for the accounting

  • Formulate and review existing work processes and policies. Identify and recommend improvements in line with current business and regulatory practices

Skills and attributes for success

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

  • Strong sense of urgency with great organizational skills to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines

  • Meticulous, resourceful and reliable

  • Numerically inclined with good analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills

  • Strong spreadsheet skills (MS Excel essential) and good knowledge of MS Word and accounting software

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy/Finance related discipline

  • 7-10 years of payroll experience of which at least three years in a managerial capacity and a few years in accounting

  • Strong knowledge of human resources functions, payroll and employment related laws and best practices in Singapore

  • Excellent project management skills to handle complex and difficult situation with confidence

  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of Financial Reporting Standards, relevant tax rules, procedures and guidelines

  • Excellent client service skills and strong problem solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and collaborate with multi-cultural business partners and stakeholders

Ideally, you also have

  • ACCA or equivalent
