As a Senior Network Engineer in the WAN Connect service group, you will be responsible for research, design, engineering, implementation and identifying continuous enhancement opportunities of various network services across the global Ernst & Young environment. These services and related offerings are based on solutions supported by various networking products, technologies from industry leading and innovative vendors across Data Center, Cloud, WAN, Campus and Branch Office environments. Additionally you will provide consulting services to other IT teams, and act as a level four escalation point for operational issues.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Technical Competence

  • Lead the development of technical solutions and offerings for network services across the global Ernst & Young environment. These services are standards based, inherently secure, innovative and aligned to business requirements.

  • Translate business needs into technical requirements. Identify gaps, strategic impacts, financial impacts and the risk profile in the technical solution or offering, and provides L4 escalation support.

  • Create designs based on industry best practices, sound solid engineering principles incorporating both local and global requirements while clearly understanding that one size does not fit all.

  • Provide sponsorship and lead technical delivery for projects, programs and initiatives with a focus on fiscal responsibility while delivering on time, in scope and on budget.

  • Handle complex long-term and short-term focused projects involving multiple disciplines or business units. Provide leadership and direction to high priority or special projects undertaken by the business area.

  • Evaluate new technological developments and evolving business requirements and recommend to client and IT management appropriate technological alternatives.

  • Provide high-level specialized technical support and consultation to business and IT management.

  • Provide technology expertise for all facets of data networking to enhance quality and facilitate superior solutions which meet business requirements.

  • Develop design and configuration documentation to be used by the Regional Network Domain and Operations teams for implementation and support.

  • Work with the portfolio and service delivery teams to provide consultancy expertise towards developing Business Case and ROM Estimates.

  • Collaborate with appropriate teams to create and gain approval on global technology standards and reference architectures on an ongoing basis.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for configuration guidelines and templates.

  • Research and keep abreast of industry trends and new technology offerings by maintaining engineering relationships with strategic vendors to ensure our technology landscape, reference architectures, designs and configuration standards stays current.

  • Lead all technical aspects of RFI/RFP exercises including document preparation, evaluate vendor technology and service offerings, conduct proof of technology exercises and provide recommendations.

  • Act as a consultant to the other teams for network portfolio.

  • Drive and complete technical network deliverables on assigned projects.


  • Maintain responsibility for individual resource utilisation whilst working on projects, meeting defined capacity models and providing regular utilisation reporting.

  • Working with the Service Delivery Team (project management), ensure projects are resourced correctly and from this that they meet deadlines and budgets.

  • Ensure compliance to key performance indicators (KPIs), suggesting changes where necessary to promote efficiencies in the IT Service processes and procedures.

  • Ensure full and correct time capture on a weekly basis for all project and administration work to allow effective top level reporting.

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical solutions or offerings for network services leveraging PPDIOO lifecycle methodology including requirements, functional & non-functional specifications, design, integration, testing, deployment and optimization.

  • Review and recommend network related technologies, designs and services that will assist in the support of the firm’s global IT infrastructure.

  • Work with Strategy & Architecture and Regional Network Domain teams to provide new networking standards for the organisation and help to identify opportunities to enhance existing services and offerings.

  • Evaluate and recommend different network related hardware, software and services to be supported as “standard components” that will be utilized in support of infrastructure builds.

  • Drive proof of technology planning and participate in joint lab and solution development with technology partners.

  • Ensure compliance with infrastructure design methodologies during project work with both the Service Delivery and Regional Network Domain teams.

  • Perform project tasks independently, and as needed direct the efforts of others.

  • Anticipate client needs and formulate solutions to client issues.

  • Achieve "first-pass" check of accuracy and quality in solutions development and design approvals.

  • Gain adherence to architecture standards and principles, global product-specific guidelines and local regulatory requirements.

  • Provide infrastructure maintenance support for problem management and incident escalation.

  • Coach junior staff.

  • Manage own personal and professional development, seeking opportunities for expansion of consulting skills and experiences.

  • Help the firm to achieve excellent ratings during internal and external audits.

Job Requirements:


  • A degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline, plus industry accreditation or equivalent work experience.


  • Substantial, extensive and demonstrated experience in various aspects of technology infrastructure design and implementation, with tangible, relevant and demonstrated experience in delivering projects within scope and budget.

  • 10+ years in an engineering function which includes at least 3 years of experience with research, evaluation, and designing of WAN technologies, DC technologies, Cloud Computing, SDN technologies, Automation and DevOps solutions as it relates to networking.

Certification Requirements

  • Industry accreditation desirable (Examples: MTA, MCSA, MCSE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CCNP, CCIE).

  • ITIL Foundation certification.
