In the aftermath of the global financial crisis and the responses of the standard setters issuing new and more complex accounting standards, as well as the heightened interest of the regulators, the increasing need for dealing with complex financial reporting issues and interpreting technical requirements is high on the agenda of our profession but also of big corporates and financial institutions. As an IFRS Specialist Manager, you will be at the heart of that goal as our IFRS Desk team is looking to build its technical resources.

The opportunity

We are currently seeking a professional at Manager level to join the IFRS Desk team. As IFRS Specialist Manager you will have a great opportunity to expand your technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge and skills, act as the IFRS specialist working with audit and advisory teams on different projects across industries and contribute to our quality and risk management processes which includes ensuring consistent application of IFRS. At the same time you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to our Assurance practice during a time of exciting changes in the financial reporting and regulatory environment; as well as be connected to a network of IFRS technical experts in our global organization.

Your key responsibilities

The nature of this role means you will be continuously exposed to the latest developments, and required to follow those developments and link to real-life situations and issues. You willperform research and prepare technical papers to provide support to our audit teams or advisory services to clients on complex accounting matters including financial instruments related issues; participate in the execution of a variety of projects, participate in technical subject matter groups thus networking with other specialists in our Global organization, perform pre-issuance reviews of IFRS financial statements, support in implementation and monitoring of our internal quality and risk management procedures and deliver IFRS technical trainings.That means you need to think outside the box, be creative and solutions oriented, challenge existing practicesand be adaptable to change.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Acting as the IFRS technical expert on various audit or IFRS advisory projects, properly analyzing the fact pattern, and performing substantiated technical analysis.

  • Acting as IFRS pre-issuance technical reviewer on IFRS financial statements, for compliance with IFRS and ensuring mandatory disclosure requirements are met.

  • Networking within EMEIA IFRS Desk and technical subject matter groups across EMEIA, sharing experiences/best practices and providing insights.

  • Collaborating with the Partner to determine regional IFRS Desk strategy that appropriately addresses risk and manages internal expectations and needs.

  • Implementing IFRS initiatives, creating an environment for people to advance on IFRS matters.

  • Participating in external IFRS events – acting as brand ambassador.

  • Dealing with complex accounting issues (including financial instruments), contributing to writing technical accounting papers.

  • Developing and maintaining strong networks, both inside and outside the firm, to communicate the value of EY IFRS network, while providing solution-oriented services.

  • Endeavoring to be visible in the marketplace and to be recognized as a quality service provider.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • 6 or moreyears of working experience (including at least 1 year as a Manager) in an audit firm

  • Professional accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA or equivalent)

  • Excellent academic background including a bachelor’s/master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other related field.

  • Good general IFRS knowledge, strong technical skills, ability to research technical issues (in particular IFRS) and recognized cautious risk management ability

  • Proven ability in researching client inquires and emerging issues, including regulations, industry practices and new technologies

  • Excellentwritten and verbal communication, presentation and technical report writing skills in Greek and especially English

  • Strong project management and leadership skills

  • Results-oriented approach with keen attention to high quality and accuracy along with strong appetite for development and relationship building

  • Flexibility to travel in accordance with client and other job requirements both locally and internationally

Ideally you will also have

  • Proven experience in one or more particular sector, including financial reporting issues mainly affecting this sector

  • Specialty and extended practical experience in specific technical topics, e.g. business combinations, financial instruments, income taxes, or other

  • Up to date knowledge of standard setters’ current project activities and regulators’ enforcement priorities
