We’re looking for Senior Consultants, Managers and Senior Managers with Transaction Management experience, who are interested in a focus on Defence, to join our Melbourne and Canberra teams.
We are doing important work to support Defence to successfully procure key capabilities which will meet Defence’s strategic commitments under the Defence White Paper.

We are building a unique business focussed on managing Defence procurement programs. This business will focus on assisting Defence to coordinate procurement efforts, support Defence to become a smart procurer, deliver high quality decisions and facilitate seamless asset and capability acquisition and sustainment. This business will work alongside our partners organisations and other parts of EY who will provide commercial advice, modelling and due diligence to support defence decisions.

What we do
Operational Transaction Services (OTS) is a dedicated team within Oceania TAS (Transaction Advisory Services) that helps Government and corporate clients to increase value and decrease operational risk when they acquire, divest, integrate or transition organisations, capabilities and contracts.
What you will do
In your role you will:
Work with a team of EY professionals, Defence, our partner organisation and other sector professionals to provide advice and support throughout the procurement transaction lifecycle, including stakeholder engagement, project oversight procurement planning and management. Your work could include;
Establishing and then overseeing the project to deliver on the procurement
Coordinate procurement option and strategy development
Run aspects of the procurement process, including facilitating EOI, RFP and evaluation processes
Ensure adherence to Defence procurement processes, Commonwealth Procurement Rules and other Government requirements
Facilitate the process for negotiation and commercial close for the transaction
Plan and manage the transition of the procured asset or capability into service
You would act as a role model and support development of newly hired junior team members, coupled with recruitment and training responsibilities for the Defence focussed OTS team.
Skills and experience
The team we are building requires a level of strategic understanding and advice on the Government’s procurement process as well as sharp attention to detail and hands on project delivery. Practitioners need to have the following skills:
Transaction experience: Need to understand commercial drivers, contracting models, government processes/probity obligations and government policy objectives within a complex or large scale procurement environment
Strategic and tactical skills: Able to provide client with strategic procurement support and advice. Also able to facilitate and deliver hands on support at various phases of the transaction (e.g. facilitate and review multiple documents from legal, commercial, technical etc.)
Project Management skills: Need to understand (and use appropriate tools for) project planning/timing, prioritisation, risk identification and project management
As an OTS professional you will require knowledge and experience in the below:
An analytical and commercial background gained from Defence, consulting, industry or government sectors
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in and lead project teams
Strong technical skills in managing large scale procurements
Operating in a high security environment
Preferably security cleared above Baseline level
