DE&I Communications, Assistant Director

Position Summary:

The Communications Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness executes strategic DEI communications to support business objectives for internal clients and public relations efforts within the Americas.

Creates and implements a broad range of communication deliverables across multiple channels, allocates appropriate resources, manages deliverable timelines, measures effort success, while working in lockstep with the DEI Brand, Marketing and Communications (BMC) Leader and DEI team.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Creates, develops and manages scope and schedule for moderate to complex communications projects for internal and/or external audiences. Plans and assigns resources to associated tasks and deliverables as appropriate. Manages resources and tasks based on project plan.

  • Collaborates with the DEI BMC Leader to develop plans designed to effectively communicate strategic objectives and initiatives. Presents complex ideas and anticipates potential objections. Leverages experience, insight and creativity to influence others to consider innovative solutions. Anticipates and communicates ramifications of decisions and issues to project stakeholders. Presents alternatives when obstacles and objections arise.

  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with internal project stakeholders. Manages project stakeholders’ expectations.

  • Creates strategic, targeted and impactful communications to inform, inspire and motivate various internal and external audiences. This role will be able to draft, obtain approval, and execute messaging through a variety of channels, including webcasts, podcasts, videos, social media, newsletters, firm-wide meetings, presentations, e-mails, Daily News, intranet, and thought leadership.

  • Possesses strong DEI subject matter insight. Also exudes strong comfort level working across service lines, industries and/or functional practice/internal client groups in a highly matrixed organization. Can also build consensus among stakeholders.

  • Understands environmental factors affecting the firm, the practice, and our markets.

  • May work on public relations initiatives such as crisis management, local office awareness, community involvement, alumni relationships, employer brand efforts, awards and rankings, sponsorships, etc.

  • Leverages available tools and technology to measure impact of communications initiatives. Demonstrates ability to analyze measurement data to effectively advise leadership and ensure communications strategy evolves as needed.

  • Responds to inquiries about communication deliverables for which they or team members are responsible.

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.

  • Possesses poise and confidence to professionally interact with all levels of management within the firm.

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities :

  • Recognized for their communications knowledge, insight and experience within and outside their business unit. Acts as a strategic communications consultant with stakeholders when key business issues are discussed.

  • Acts as project manager and directs functional business unit’s staff and activities

  • Work is reviewed only for results obtained. Technical knowledge/skill may substitute for managerial responsibility.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (including presentations) as well as listening and interpretation skills.

  • Must be able to articulate complex subject matter in a straightforward, concise and easily digestible manner for broad audiences.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, including the development of junior staff.

Supervision Responsibilities:

Receives limited supervision and is competent to work independently within area of communications activities. Review of work generally occurs at longer intervals.

Other Requirements:

Crisis situations could cause longer hours than expected.

Job Requirements:


Bachelor’s degree with a communications or related major or equivalent experience.


Approximately 7+ years of communications experience is required with 3+ years of DEI subject matter experience highly preferred.
