The Government and Public Sector (“GPS”) Reporting Lead will report to the GPS Controller/Implementation lead.
In this role you’ll be responsible for the creation and execution of reporting strategy for the Government and Public Sector (GPS) business within EY, to effectively and efficiently support internal management reporting, financial reporting, and external regulatory reporting.
Your key responsibilities
Develop comprehensive EY GPS reporting strategy that successfully addresses the needs of a diverse set of stakeholders: GPS Leadership, GPS Finance and Controlling, GPS Compliance, GPS Operations, GPS Talent, GPS Markets/Engagements, GPS Service Lines, GPS Solutions, GPS IT, GPS Contracts, GPS Pricing, etc. A key deliverable for this role is a comprehensive suite of user-friendly reports that answer the many reporting needs across the GPS practice.
Leverage background with Costpoint and other reporting tools, as well as general government contracting knowledge, to offer holistic recommendations for improvements, enhancements, or new reporting—with the goal of meeting both known and as-yet-unknown reporting needs across the GPS practice.
Drawing from a variety of sources, including substantially from Costpoint, partner with GPS Markets stakeholders to create repeatable and reliable comprehensive reporting dashboards focused on “demand side” sector/client/account measurement.
Work with engagement teams and project finance support to assess reporting needs at an engagement level, in concert with implementation of future state processes for EY (e.g. EAC/forecast preparation).
Partner with GPS Service Lines and GPS FP&A to streamline existing and/or envision new reports to enable world-class insights and analytics at the Service Line, Sub-Service Line, and Competency levels (i.e. “supply side”).
Work with individuals across the GPS Acceleration team to identify current pain points and opportunities for automation of current reporting processes. Implement best practices to ensure repeatability, efficiency, and proper validations are in place to ensure data integrity.
Collaborate across the GPS Empower team to understand all data elements (both financial and non-financial) being captured throughout all modules of Costpoint. Ensure all data needs identified in reporting strategy and design are reflected in EY’s Costpoint design and configuration. Identify any data gaps and work with Deltek to resolve.
Work with Deltek team to strategically structure data packages, tables, catalogs, etc. in EY’s reporting tools in such a way as to maximize reporting flexibility and ability to easily customize reports, while minimizing complex data connections that tend to slow down systems. Oversee Deltek resource during the Empower project and ensure alignment of report development against articulated needs.
Design future processes that will support the GPS Finance Lead in preparing and transmitting GPS financial results, and possibly other non-financial metrics, to EY LLP timely, following the GPS accounting close. Ensure seamless integration of Costpoint financials to firmwide reporting.
Document GPS reporting strategy and methods in the form of procedure document(s).
In the case of acquisition, work with incoming team to identify any/all unique data or reporting needs and ensure those needs can be met in the EY reporting ecosystem or identify and help to implement workable alternatives.
Work with GPS Acceleration team to understand unique reporting requirements for each ‘indirect’ function and strategize how to best meet the needs for each. For example, B&P tracking by opportunity size, IT cost tracking by cost category, etc.
Work with Budgeting & Planning lead to ensure timely and reliable availability of data in a user-friendly format to support future internal and external regulatory rate reporting.
Work with GPS IT, Finance and Compliance to develop method(s) of charging IT costs to internal and external engagements, both within and outside of GPS, as applicable. Structure processes to ensure data needed to support cost calculations and charges will be available at the proper time to the proper process participants and fit within the GPS accounting close cycle.
Work alongside GPS Controlling and Compliance in the development of additional service centers, allocations, or multi-jobs (e.g., Contracts, Security). Ensure data needs are met to enable and facilitate the use of these mechanisms within Costpoint for EY.
Skills and attributes for success
High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Power Point
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and external auditors
Self-starter and self-motivated. Strong discretion regarding areas to address individually vs. those requiring escalation and comfort level with making decisions and judgment calls.
Able to successfully manage competing priorities.
Ability to influence others without relying on direct authority.
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Approximately 8-10 plus years of relevant (e.g., accounting, finance) experience in a government contracting environment
Approximately 3-5 plus years working in a lead reporting capacity reporting to either a Controller, CFO, or other C-level (or equivalent) executive.
Experienced leader with expertise of general accounting and financial reporting best practices.
Experience as a direct user of Deltek Costpoint in either an accounting, finance or reporting capacity
In-depth knowledge of Deltek Costpoint – in particular, data architecture, structures, and tables
Extensive experience building new reporting packages and modifying/upgrading existing reports based on evolving user needs
Experience in a highly dynamic environment requiring partnership with numerous stakeholders including change management
Experience in project financial metrics, preferably in a project-based organization, utilizing Costpoint
Demonstrated success in leading exploratory discussions and accurately interpreting stakeholder needs that may at times be only partially articulated
Experience working in a Big 4 accounting firm, or other highly matrixed environment requiring a high degree of adeptness at balancing the needs of numerous equivalent stakeholders
Ability to obtain a government security clearance, if required

Ideally, you’ll also have:
Advanced degree in business, information systems or data analytics
Working knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, and other reporting software and tools
Experience with system integration and launch, or experience with data conversions, business combinations or acquisitions
Experience with data exchanges between systems also very beneficial
Understanding of Costpoint pool structures and service center allocations. Experience with multi-job functionality is a plus.
Working knowledge of SAP
