Seasonal Tax Manager – Tax Accounting & Risk Advisory (TARAS) - Remote - GCR FSO: This position could be located in Houston - TX (primary), OH, IA, AL, NY, NJ, MA, NC, IL, FL, TN, TX, CA.

Our Tax Accounting and Risk Advisory Services (TARAS) practice assists companies with all aspects of their financial reporting for income taxes including tax accounting, tax provision procedures, and controls design and testing. The TARAS practice is an established practice that has been serving the complex and global tax reporting needs of companies for approximately ten years. We believe that by managing our clients' tax obligations responsibly and proactively we can make a critical difference, and you'll be at the heart of this mission.

The opportunity

EY is currently seeking experienced seasonal tax professionals for our winter/spring 2023 tax season. You’ll join the team at a critical time, leveraging your expertise to help support our clients. You'll receive hourly, over-time eligible pay, and a unique opportunity to enhance or refine your skills within one of our high performing tax teams.

Your key responsibilities

As a seasonal tax manager your main priority will be involved with tax provision preparing, calculating and initial review, assisting companies with all aspects of their preparation of the tax provision. The anticipated winter/spring 2023 tax seasonal time frame is December through July, with some variability depending on your needs and the needs of your team. Most teams have an average of 40 -50 hours/week available during busy season. Expectations around hours are discussed during the interview process for each role, so you'll be able to share your availability and know what to expect prior to coming aboard. In this role you'll be able to work remotely from within the United States, with no travel required.

Skills and attributes for success

  • A strategic eye toward prioritizing when working on multiple complex projects

  • Influencing skills, and the confidence and curiosity to question existing processes

  • The ability to produce technical writing and research in a tax context

  • Knowledgeable with accounting for federal income tax, tax accounting for financial statements, planning for tax rate impact and cash flow

  • Experience in corporate tax planning and compliance and federal income taxation

  • Strong ASC 740 and/or IAS 12 under IFRS experience

  • Comfort with working remotely in a virtual team environment

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Valid US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active state bar membership

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in tax provision or tax accounting

  • Relevant tax experience in business or industry with a broad exposure to federal income taxation

  • Strong analytical skills, written/verbal communication skills, interpersonal; problem-solving ability and attention to detail

Ideally, you'll also have

  • A proven record of excellence in tax accounting for financial statements with a top or mid-tier firm specializing in financial services
