Retirement Benefits Supervising Associate

The Retirement Benefits Supervising Associate works within Ernst & Young's partner retirement payroll/retirement function and completes calculations of current and projected pension benefits, which includes financial and data analyses and maintenance.

The opportunity

Maintain and support the 401(k)-database located on the PNN (Partner News Network), calculate and contribute partners' year-end 401(k) contributions and catch-up contributions, and answer all partners 401(k)-related questions.

Your key responsibilities

  • Communicate to Benefits Express/Hewitt and National Benefits via a monthly file all life events regarding health and welfare matters for retired/withdrawn partners.

  • Facilitate and provide direction to partners regarding health and welfare related-inquires received by partnership. Maintain the firm's partner retirement payroll/retirement function to make certain proper adjustments are made to pension payments; make all pension-related entries, and balance and issue payroll.

  • Analyze and report on raw financial data by developing mainframe extracts and writing programs and formulas.

  • Calculate retirement pension benefits under various plans, which requires sound decision-making on plan options, actuarial tables and various discounts.

  • Communicate calculations and consult with Partners around pension questions and concerns.

  • Research potential calculations errors with vendors.

  • Maintain the database with current personnel information used to calculate pension benefits.

  • Process retirement benefits and payroll elections independently.

  • Write letters for communication of payroll changes, calculations, eligibility for pension, retirement, insurance, and other benefits.

  • Communicate and interface with retiring partners, other personnel in the partnership group, internal departments with the national office, and external vendors.

  • Provide assistance with special reports and projects, as requested

Skills and attributes for success

  • Requires excellent communication skills.

  • Decision making is limited to fairly routine functional activities and projects. Position requires an intermediate understanding and application of principles and practices of a specific professional discipline. Duties are generally varied in scope and moderately complex.

  • Special projects will require high analytical skills and independent thinking.

  • Expect to work independently with limited supervision. May supervise day to day activity of an Associate

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office products

  • Project management experience a plus

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • BA degree in related discipline or equivalent work experience.

  • Approximately 5 + years of experience

The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $74,100 to $151,100. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $92,600 to $157,400. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
