Join our Finance team and you will help enable EY client account teams and management to run the business effectively. You’ll help to improve engagement profitability, manage enterprise wide risk and support market development activities. You will support EY planning, reporting and forecasting and analysis, or help EY people manage day-to-day activities, such as managing engagements, process and auditing time and expense or invoice processing. You’ll also work with other parts of our organization, sharing your financial experience and insights to achieve specific goals. The Payroll Operations Analyst Associate is required to have advance payroll knowledge including but not limited to complex benefit issues such as expatriate taxation, unemployment insurance, payroll systems, payroll auditing, and leadership concepts. This position is also responsible for the research, analysis, development and maintenance of written People Shared Services Center (PSS) payroll procedures and service level agreements. Also requires advance knowledge of all payroll principles and accounting controls. This role requires all communications use proper payroll terminology, be professional, and preserve confidentiality.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Manage department workflow
Review and approve payments
Review and approve wage/tax adjustments for current and prior years
Audit system transactions to ensure accurate and timely data and tax set up
Train new hires on all payroll processes
Research and respond to escalated inquiries with accuracy and timeliness
Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with established policies and procedures with minimal to nosupervision
Escalate issues to management as needed
Communicate with members of the Americas People Team (APT), EY personnel and external parties regarding payroll issues as appropriate
Prepare, analyze and contribute to reports as directed
Provide feedback for evaluations and developmental needs for team to supervisor
Assists with special projects as requested
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities :
Requires advance understanding of Payroll principles and all federal, state, and local wage and tax mandates
Understands the dependencies that exist with other HR departments
Demonstrate good judgment and experience in applying concepts and guideline
Follows through on commitments and takes responsibility for results
Understands the importance of effectively prioritizes assignments to meet scheduled deadlines in accordance with department guidance
Consistently seek for process improvements
Utilize key internal contacts to answer questions, resolve issues and provide office services
Applies knowledge of business environment in specific areas
Shares information with colleagues on policies, procedures, and internal resources
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
Ability to apply analytical thinking to research and document transactions following standard HR PSS and Payroll procedures
Understand advance payroll concepts and accounting principles
Effectively articulate with employees with an emphasis to use proper payroll terminology. Always showing professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy.
Works effectively with others within the department, PSS Center, field APT, and other EY personnel and external parties
Effective with the use of Payroll systems and firm standard technology including Windows, Excel, Word, Lotus Notes, Intranet, Case Management tools/tracker, Call Center tools, Access database, and other PSS related application
Resolves clients’ needs and deliver exceptional client service
Performs duties and responsibilities with minimal to no supervision in accordance with policies and procedures
Identify and timely communicate best payroll processing procedures to management
Experience in Payroll processing environment, familiar with federal/state/local tax set-up based on work/resident location; knowledge of overtime calculations in a non-standard work week. Flexible work arrangements and time-off may be limited due to business demands. Overtime required per-approval.
High school diploma or equivalent Payroll experience
Approximately 5+ years of Payroll processing experience
Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) highly preferred.
