The Opportunity

Our Actuarial Advisory Services practice comprises two areas: Life Insurance and Non-Life (Property/Casualty) products and services. This role is to lead the Life Actuarial practice in Bermuda; this exciting role is a result of the continued growth in the Life insurance/reinsurance industry across the region and will involve working closely with other EY teams, particularly in the UK, Europe and US to deliver cross-border engagements to our clients. Here, you’ll be right at the heart of that mission, leading client engagement teams in the Life area, working directly with clients, mentoring and developing team members and building your personal brand as a leader in your field.

Your Key Responsibilities

You’re likely to split your time on operational aspects of client business and business development initiatives. That means developing an in-depth understanding of our clients’ unique needs and goals, before leading a team in developing and delivering meaningful actuarial advisory services to our clients. You’ll be responsible for delivering a project which means you will need to communicate effective new strategies and the plan to bring these strategies to life with your team.

Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders arekept informed about progress and expected outcomes. Manage expectations ofclient service delivery. Stay abreast of current business and industrytrends relevant to the client's business.

  • Effectivelylead and motivate teams with diverse skills and backgrounds. Provideconstructive on-the-job feedback/coaching to team members. Foster aninnovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment. Play an activerole in counselling and mentoring junior consultants within theorganization.

  • Generatenew business opportunities. Understand EY and its service lines andactively assess/present ways to serve clients. Develop and maintainlong-term client relationships and networks. Develop relationships withteam members across all EY practices to serve client needs.

  • Demonstratedeep actuarial technical capabilities and professional knowledge.Demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge. Possess in depthbusiness acumen. Remain current on new regulations concerning theInsurance industry.

  • Demonstratean understanding of complex actuarial concepts, discuss complex issueswith the engagement team and client management, keep informed ofprofessional standards and firm policies (e.g., Actuarial Standards ofPractice), and effectively apply this knowledge to client situations.

  • Maintaina reputation as an industry expert by writing articles, taking aleadership role within industry groups and speaking at industry events.

To qualifyfor the role you must have

  • ABachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and/orother related major

  • Aminimum of 10 years of recent relevant experience in an actuarial positionwith at least 3 years of increased management responsibility; priorexperience within a professional services and/or public accounting firm isrequired

  • Fellowshipin the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) or Fellow of the Societyof Actuaries (SOA) or other internationally recognized professionalactuarial association

  • Regulatoryexperience, either through working for the regulator or liaising with theregulator for company approvals/applications.

  • Technicaland practical understanding of Solvency II and the European regulatoryregime; an understanding of the Bermuda equivalent regulatory regime wouldbe highly valued but is not required.

  • Strong writtenand verbal communication, interpersonal, presentation, client service andbusiness writing and consulting skills

Ideally you’ll also have

  • Priorconsulting experience with strong business development, sales and accountmanagement skills

  • Abilityto deliver proposals and contribute to strategic discussions at the Boardand senior management level

  • Willingnessand ability to travel to meet client needs

  • Strongmanagerial experience including leading teams across different projects
