FTEAS provides fiduciary accounting for trusts and estates to professional fiduciaries, law firms, banks, individuals and family offices throughout the U.S. The role of this Staff position is to prepare fiduciary accountings, represent prepare fiduciary accountings, represent FTEAS in the market to develop new business and assist with special projects.
This position is responsible for preparing fiduciary/court accountings for professional fiduciaries, attorneys, banks, trust companies, individuals, and family offices and developing business in the market. Successful performance in this position is dependent on: (1) The production of accurate reports in a volume-driven environment within deadline-driven time frames established by our client needs; (2) Participation in industry groups, events, and conferences.
Prepare fiduciary accountings for trusts, estates, conservatorships, guardianships, and foundations in multiple jurisdictions throughout the United States.
Take responsibility for high quality execution of all elements of a fiduciary accounting from the initial client onboarding to completion of the project.
Review trust and estate documents, including trust instruments, wills, and IRS Form 706.
Review and interpret source data (e.g., bank statements, brokerage statements, checking accounts, loan documents), in order to determine proper treatment for accounting purposes.
Participate in internal and external training to maintain and enhance knowledge of fiduciary law and software applications.
Regular communication with clients.
Participate in business development activities throughout California, with a focus on the Northern market including the Professional Fiduciary Association of California, Estate Planning Council and other industry organizations.
Regular interaction and communication with immediate supervisor, and all department/company coworkers.
Ability to organize and maintain personal account workload and meet all deadlines.
Maintain annual firm required CPE credits.
Develop an understanding of EY service offerings
Build knowledge about risk management and independence
Required Technical/Professional Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of current fiduciary accounting law and concepts required to prepare fiduciary/court accountings
Knowledge of California Probate Code and California Principal and Income Act
Experience working with Professional Fiduciaries and attorneys.
Skilled at seeking out and building strong relationships to serve clients and develop business.
Skilled at reviewing and interpreting trust and estate documents to prepare accountings
Proficient at working with the Thomson Reuters FAS accounting system
Strong technical skills in basic computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, company specific systems and Quicken.
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Experience with managing client relationships
Attention to details.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or economics preferred, but not required.
Professional Fiduciary, National Certified Guardian or paralegal certification preferred, but not required
Two to three years of experience in preparation of fiduciary accountings.
Experience working with Professional Fiduciaries and/or attorneys
Professional Fiduciary or experience supporting Professional Fiduciaries or a paralegal with trust and estate knowledge, is preferred.
