Your key responsibilities

The Senior Business Architect (SBA) role is one of the keys to a successful project. Ensuring that the business requirements, use cases/user stories and objectives are being addressed throughout the implementation lifecycle will be the key responsibilities of the SBA.

They are responsible for interfacing on a regular basis with:

  • the business stakeholders to help capture the objectives and requirements associated with the proposed application. The SBA facilitates the gathering and documentation of business requirements and leads design sessions (also known as Direct Capture of Objectives (DCO) Sessions) while helping the business resources prepare for them;

  • the development team to drive alignment of what they are building against the business requirements and to verify that they have all the necessary information to complete their work;

  • the testing team to drive their understanding of the application and the business objectives/requirements and help build test cases that thoroughly test the solution.

When required the SBA manages and directs all project Business Analysts and business team participants by assigning and tracking tasks, priorities and also ensures the quality of the artifacts being produced meet the highest standards.

SBA will also be responsible for helping with project management activities to assure the team is on track with the implementation.

Responsibilities

  • SBA assists or manages (when needed) the business track and work efforts week to week.

  • SBA leads or participates in leading the business team in gathering requirements and choosing the best way to implement requirements leveraging the Pegasystems software and DCO capabilities.

  • SBA ensures standards around the level of detail captured for objectives and requirements are met in all business documents produced.

  • SBA helps verify the documented Use Cases/User Stories adequately represent the needs of the business and meet all requirements.

  • SBA documents business rules and confirms others on the business team capturing business rules are documenting all the required details and with high levels of quality.

  • SBA assist with class structure design from the perspective of understanding the data requirements/needs by the business users and related systems and helping establish a re-use strategy

  • SBA models and designs business process – with ability to decompose the business process into case types. stages/steps and flows.

  • SBA analyzes business data, forms and other documentation provided by the client.

  • SBA assists with the draft UI – wireframes and mock-ups.

  • SBA validates the business test scripts adequately test the application under various conditions – both QA and UAT test scripts.

Skills and attributes for success

The following are minimum requirements for the Senior Business Architect (SBA) candidate. Candidates with more years of experience than the minimum listed are highly preferred.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 3-4 years Business Analyst or Business Architect experience.

  • 1-2 years of consulting experience

  • 2-3 years of experience at capturing and documenting requirements, use cases/user stories and other business artifacts.

  • 2-3 years of facilitation experience – ability to challenge and think through the requirements with the client rather than accepting requirements as-is.

  • 2-3 or experience delivering full lifecycle Pega projects (inception/planning through Go Live) – delivery of other BPM technology projects might be considered.

  • Experience acting as a Senior Business Architect (SBA) during Inception / Elaboration / DCO sessions and guiding other junior BAs.

  • Experience with the BA activities during test phases.

  • 2 years Pega experience minimum – other BPM technology experience may be considered as well

  • Strong Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate, partner, and collaborate

  • Strong time management and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities

  • Experience working with Agile, Scrum and Waterfall methodologies

  • Knowledge of UX/UI concepts

  • Certified Pega Business Architect (CPBA)

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • 2-5 years total consulting experience with a relevant consulting firm

  • 2-4 years of experience on Pega Projects

  • Pega Certifications (CSA, CDA)

  • Exposure to a variety to technologies, including object-oriented techniques/principles, database design, application & web servers, not just Pega.

  • Excellent communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with business team as well as technical teams that need to understand the business requirements and create technical specifications.

  • Strong documentation and writing skills. Competent at building client presentations.

  • Strong meeting facilitation skills. Can facilitate business requirement and design workshops and other key business team sessions.

  • Highly motivated in ensuring success and delivering quality and within project timelines. Has pride in delivering high value solution design and successful projects. Has a proven track record for successful projects.

  • Is collaborative with the configuration and testing teams and ensures that what is being developed and tested truly meets the business team’s vision and requirements.

  • Is very collaborative with the test teams and ensures that the test cases / scripts that are developed are in full alignment with the business requirements and use cases. Validates test cases and helps the test team ensure they are accurate and thoroughly testing the application.

  • The SBA is highly detail oriented and looks beyond just the needs of the business team. Ensures that the business artifacts (Requirements documents, use cases and other artifacts) are of the highest level of quality, completeness, and accuracy. Ensures that the business documents are easily translated to technical specifications that the configuration team can build the solution off of, and for the test team to develop quality test cases/scripts.

  • Creative and strategic thinker. Is viewed by customers and colleagues as a Thought Leader. Drives innovative business solutions by guiding the business team – rather than just an order taker of requirements.

  • Participates in the enablement of customer Business Analyst and Product Owner resources on Pegasystems technology, business design, BPM and methodology best practices.
