Core activities

  • Manage multiple large multinational engagements across Africa

  • Overall responsibility of the compliance deliverables across all Africa countries which include adherence to implemented and agreed processes; contractual arrangements and review quality of deliverables such as:

  • Preparation or review of corporate income tax returns and consolidation of filing positions across multiple countries, if required

  • Review of quality of compliance indirect tax returns prepared by African countries(including withholding tax), if required

  • Preparation of legislative update reports across multiple countries and discussions with clients on actions to be taken to ensure implementation of changes or ongoing compliance

  • Maintenance of issue trackers to ensure progress is made and continuous improvement plans are executed on which include assistance with tax audits , ad hoc tax requests, etc.

  • Implementation or enhancement of tax compliance processes and ensuring standardisation across African countries

  • Facilitation of client workshops such as compliance training and “lessons learned of tax cycles”, including preparation of material, dashboards and analyses

  • Co-ordinating Bookkeeping services

  • Co-ordinating Annual Financial Statement preparation

  • Scope and review tax advisory projects that involve countries across the continent (The advice will be mainly compliance related advice) including inter alia

  • New country entry, operations and exit advice

  • Health-checks (Including Tax landscape)

  • Opinions on specific topics

  • Research information required on Africa as required by clients and for internal projects

  • Prepare practical and creative solutions to our client's challenges

  • Work closely with diverse African teams across 28 countries where EY has offices and other countries where we use contractors

Pursuit activities

  • Research clients and potential pursuits for the Africa region

  • Prepare proposals & coordinating different service-lines

  • scoping and pricing for proposals and engagements

  • Manage client relationships and identifying new business opportunities, based on technical knowledge, on existing accounts

  • Assist with the preparation of written proposals for new opportunities

Operational activities

  • Ability to lead high performing teams while maintaining quality service delivery

  • Work closely with fellow team members to ensure the effective operational running of the business

  • Open engagements, opportunities and manage client WIP and billings and ensure write offs on clients are kept at a minimal

  • Engagement planning and administration, including preparation of budgets, work in progress management and client billings

Qualifications & Experience

  • CA (SA) with Hip in International Tax Law or a LLB/LLM with HDip Tax Law or other relevant qualifications

  • At least 5 years tax experience

  • Extensive experience in project management and research experience

  • Excellent managing teams skills
