This is a business critical role reporting to the Operations Manager, working as part of a team of staff to deliver a broad range of operational services.

The role is primarily focused on proactively assessing and managing the continuous improvement of the operations environment to ensure that the business functions efficiently and effectively. The business manager serves as a key advisor to the management team through these activities to ensure that the decision makers are well equipped and that the right decisions can be made at the right time based on a deeper understanding of multiple and holistic business data.

Experience in: Scenario planning and business modelling is key to this. In summary the high-level functions of this role include - business analysis, business process re-engineering and operational improvement, tool and systems integration and optimization, management, meeting preparation and execution, budget and forecast planning, headcount management, revenue recognition, financial management in conjunction with the central finance team, cost management, client engagement profitability analysis, implementing controls, engagement reporting, debt management , query resolution & escalation for all of services.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Operational Excellence:

a. Improve operational processes, system data quality and tool adoption to enable and support proactive

business decisions

b. Perform regular audits on data inputs and outputs to monitor and improve data integrity

c. Identify areas of improvement by uncovering operational root cause events, ensuring continuous

improvement of operations and overall effectiveness

d. Drive focus data quality improvement activity at the local level

e. Escalate and work with regional and global owners to improve upon structural issues where these

may impede operational excellence

f. Serve as process owner for all operational enhancements, questions and concerns

g. Provide continuous feedback to the business on operational excellence and performance in

comparison to other practices

h. Proactively analyse business KPI's and consult on the improvement of associated results

i. Consult with Operations and MSL team on continuous operational improvement through business

analysis, business modelling and scenario planning (finance advisor function).

  1. Operational Management:

a. Ensure the sound management and timeously execution of all day to day business management functions in accordance with the above

b. Managing the business process for the respective areas

c. Working with the Operations Manager and MSLs to ensure accurate and predictable forecasting

d. Establish regular and insightful MIS reporting (Budgeting, Forecasting, Variance, Revenue trends analysis, identify opportunities, risks and other business issues)

e. Ensuring that "priority accounts" are closely monitored, billings are executed, policies are enforced and communicate, and data integrity is maintained and reported on in a timely manner

f. Ensuring that all systems are being used in a common way to provide reliable business information to facilitate the right business decisions by management

g. Resolving and escalating key operational issues

h. Operational results eg. Productivity, profitability, engagement metrics

i. Providing input and insight into the budgeting process to enable the business to perform the activities needed as part of the larger EY focus, taking into account the budget guidelines & directions

j. Executing plans to drive for a better operational efficiency by implementing & delivering specific activities from a South

Africa perspective

  1. Process and Policy Compliance:

a. Drive compliance with EY policy and Audit processes and policy definitions

b. Compliance with all Q&RM related initiatives

c. Ensure readiness and training is scheduled and conducted for new and existing employees

d. Partner with Operations Team and Central Finance (CF) to review transaction accuracy and ensure process compliance from engagement teams and central finance

e. Serve as a point person for questions, escalations and exception handling

f. Drive implementation of activities as defined by the Operations and MSL meetings

g. Ensure the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of operational excellence across the business

h. Work with the Operations team and Central Finance to provide operational excellence coaching

  1. Project execution

a. Actively participate in efficiency projects and optimising initiatives, contribute to its success and ensure on-time implementation at a local level

b. Ensure project awareness by obtaining work knowledge of the project and all project impacts

c. Engage in operational and stakeholder activities as designed by the core team

d. Ensure the readiness of all impacts resulting from projects (Eg. Tools and processes

e. Work with designated local deployment team to actively set and manage stakeholder expectations

f. Design and manage local change and management programme to support projects

  1. The qualifications and personal skills we are looking for:

a. The candidate must have experience in Financial Management / Business Analysis / Process Re-Engineering and

Improvement / Consulting Operations Management

b. Finance orientated qualification (CA(SA)

c. It would be beneficial for the candidate to be familiar with the Professional Services business
