Our Tax Technology team works with internal tax professionals and external clients to help improve tax operational efficiency through the use of technology. Through a combination of strong tax technical knowledge, an understanding of key industry issues and access to advanced technology tools and methodologies we deliver sustainable technology solution to our clients helping them improve their tax function and day to day reporting requirements.
Our Tax Technology team also works with our Talent Practice in People Advisory Services, providing advanced analytics to support exceptional consultancy services for organisations globally, specialising in large-scale transformation and technology programmes. We enable business performance through Workforce Planning and Optimisation, Human Capital Analytics, Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), Leadership and Workforce Capability and Culture.
We are looking to grow our Tax Technology team in Johannesburg by bringing on board an additional Data Analyst/advanced excel data Associate who will take a role in delivering these technology solutions. You will play an integral role in driving solutions for a growing collection of key clients through technology. This is an innovative and growing area of Tax in a team looking to lead the industry.
As a data analyst you will be responsible for designing, building and implementing technology related tools and technology rich engagements to our clients and for our internal consultants
You will be working as part of multi-skilled teams of tax, accounting and technology professionals specialising in tax compliance and advisory solutions associated with financial accounting systems, compliance processes, controls, reporting solutions and other technology related projects
You will be also be working as part of multi-skilled teams of talent management, organisational culture and design and workforce planning and optimisation experts specialising in talent solutions with a strong focus on technology and analytics to support evidence based policy making, establishing organisational or HR analytics capability, and measurable business outcomes based analytics projects
You will have a particular focus on building technology tools in the area of dash boarding, working paper automation, risk management, leading practice implementation guidance and also have exposure and opportunity to work in other indirect tax aspects of financial accounting systems
Your key responsibilities
Working closely with the Tax and People Advisory Services specialists in our team as well as across other sub-service lines, your responsibilities will be to build the tools that are needed, and support and maintain these on an ongoing basis
You will also play a role in the understanding of requirements and designing the tools for our clients working closely with other team members
You will have opportunity, supported by other members of the team, to attend client meetings to consult on what the client’s need are, documenting and analysing these, helping to innovate solutions
Taking the lead on actual building of tax reporting and analytics technology based tools in South Africa and across the Africa region
After initial technical training you will be expected to work independently and manage your time and workload accordingly
The role is based in Johannesburg but may involve travel around South Africa and Africa
We are looking for a data scientist with beyond advanced Excel skills and a keen interest in talent management and/or tax. This person should have a strong data foundation and a willingness to learn on the job and apply their skills to a wide variety of talent and tax solutions.
This person should be able to work independently and be very task driven and detail orientated. A self-motivator who gets excited when confronted with a problem, and isn’t wary of having to research unknowns.
Advanced Excel skills a must : advanced formulas (i.e. match, index, sumifs, indirect, etc.), pivot tables, charts/graphs
Advanced Excel VBA experience
Ability to analysing large unstructured data sets from clients
Ability to compile data and build dashboards for deliverables
Ability to interpret and action instructions with a view towards building complete products and tools
Must be proficient with PowerPoint and Word
Demonstrating experience using advanced Excel features and techniques as well as analysis, reporting, transforming and presentation of data will be required as part of the interview process.

Tax knowledge advantageous

Access, PowerPivot, PowerQuery and/or SQL advantageous
R, Python advantegeous
SuccessFactors, Workday, SAS, SPSS/ Cognos advantageous
SharePoint experience advantageous (including site development)
Qlikview, Tableau or other visualisation application experience advantageous
