Americas Tax Technology Group – Solutions Architect – Manager

As part of our Americas Tax Technology Group (ATTG) you will be part of a technology organization that develops and maintains innovative solutions for our client-serving Tax professionals. ATTG professionals will partner with our Tax professionals to develop supporting technology such as digital/mobile tools to improve internal operations and advanced capabilities in the areas of data-driven management, workflow, analytics, automation and artificial intelligence that solve today’s challenges and create the future.

The opportunity

The Solutions Architect role is in the Architecture and Standards pillar. The main function of this pillar is to Architect market-differentiating solutions and set standards for ATTG

Your key responsibilities

  • Ensures the architecture of solutions is aligned with the direction of organization in terms of technology and business strategy.

  • Drives effective decision making to steer, harmonize and accelerates efforts within Portfolio.

  • Accountable for the solution architecture of all products within the SSL portfolio.

  • Ensures the direction and implementation of a solution is true to its design, and if a change is required, it is managed appropriately.

  • Makes an informed Build vs. Buy decision by consistently following NTI process and applying systematic approach to technology evaluation.

  • Routes technology purchase requests through appropriate channels to ensure alignment with Global Procurement purchasing requirements.

  • Ensures that the solution design specifies technologies & tools that have been approved for use by Tax Quality, Risk Management & Independence.

  • Collaborate with SDL and BTL to devise Solution Delivery Strategy.

  • Assists with mapping of the business technology strategy to a solution strategy.

  • Participate in rationalization on the latest trends in the market, available at ATTG and EY Fabric capabilities and offerings.

  • Facilitates preparation of potential technical solutions and advises SDL and BTL on the technical and business value of the proposition.

  • Promote growth, innovation, and long-term profitability concepts

  • Develops standards that typically include best practices observed from other technology rollouts and helping develop solutions faster through repeatable actions or reusable components in new designs.

  • Identifies programs to deliver Architectural leverage and scale through reusable components.

  • Works alongside governance bodies in ATTG to form part of the organization’s overall governance picture.

  • Designs products and services for minimal human intervention in deployment and operation.

  • Ensures that governance is met through automation and policy enforcement to reduce manual process gates

  • Ensures compliance to the standards for solution architecture and integration of the relevant building blocks already available

  • Defines a robust architecture for building new applications and releases, leveraging and enhancing existing building blocks, or creating new reusable components

  • Drives the organization towards best practices and technologies such as Cloud Architecture, AI, Agile/DevOps, Big Data/Analytics, Microservices and Micro-Frontends

  • Partners with others inside and outside SSL and ATTG organization to gather all requirements to formulate the appropriate architecture required to provide system functionality, deciding when to advocate, and when to compromise, to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution

  • Works closely with the Studio teams to translate the efforts into value

Skills and attributes for success

  • Ability to clearly articulate both problems and proposed solutions

  • Proactive approach to identifying issues and presenting solutions and options, and where appropriate, leading to resolution

  • Understand the long-term business objectives and suggest technical strategies to meet those objectives by introducing innovation through technology

  • Must have experience working with various architectural styles and patterns

  • Comfortable communicating architecture to all levels of management and customers

  • Responsive and decisive on adjusting our product architecture per customer requirements, market conditions and technology evolution

  • Excellent knowledge of software development methodologies and processes

  • Track record that includes the design and release of high-quality, high-performance, enterprise-level software products/applications

  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical, prioritization, and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong leadership skills and experience successfully managing teams

  • Work and communicate internally and with the customer at all levels, including engineers, end-users to C-suite

  • Experience with designing and implementing hybrid cloud solutions

  • Architectural experience including use of UML and other Case tools

  • Strong experience in ability to document concepts and designs for C-level consumption

  • Working experience in Business Architecture

  • Works with limited direction & oversight

  • Provides Supervision & direction to team members & staff

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor's degree (computer science, engineering, accounting, finance preferred) or equivalent work experience.

  • Master's degree preferred

  • 10+ years of experience

  • Management experience a plus

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $83,600 to $190,800. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $100,300 to $216,800. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. You’ll also be granted time off for designated EY Paid Holidays, Winter/Summer breaks, Personal/Family Care, and other leaves of absence when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being.
