The function is made up of around 2,000 professionals, working across the Executive and Regions in the following areas of specialism: Brand; Marketing; PR/Media Relations & External Communications; Internal Communications &Employee Engagement; Corporate communications.
BMC also includes a number of teams who are responsible for content development, editorial, webcasts, events-staging, strategy, planning and operations. The Brand, Marketing & Communications (BMC) function has an important role to play in helping to achieve EY’s Vision 2020 ambition to become the leading global professional services organization. The Global Assurance BMC team is seeking a communications professional to lead the development of internal communications and our engagement programs globally.
As Global Assurance Communications and Engagement Leader, you will work closely with the Global Assurance BMC Leader, senior service line leaders, including the Global Assurance Vice Chair, the Global Assurance Deputy Vice Chair and the broader Assurance executive team to communicate and engage with a practice of more than 85,000 professionals. The role requires an experienced and professional internal communications expert with a strong understanding of a partnership matrix operating environment and a background in leading complex campaigns. This individual will need to build strong relationships with primary stakeholders and collaborate closely with service line business leaders and communications professionals within the broader BMC team, as well as relevant client-serving professionals. Experience working in Assurance or a strong understanding of the audit marketplace is an advantage.
Success in this role rests on the co-development of an internal communications and engagement strategy that enables the delivery of world-class communications programs that inspire and engage audiences. The ability to manage senior stakeholders and translate complex matters into effective messages is critical. Strategic thinking, initiative, flexibility and creativity are essential.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Work with the Global Assurance BMC Leader to create a global internal communications strategy for Assurance that engages the practice, brings the Assurance business strategy to life, enables firm-wide conversations and inspires action
Produce written/digital internal communications from Assurance leaders to the practice; and provide counsel on best practice and communication innovations
Support the management and deployment of annual Global Assurance Executive events and key leadership meetings throughout the year and produce pre-and-post communication cascade
Manage relationships with key Assurance stakeholders across the BMC organization and within the business at the Executive level, establishing sponsors and subject matter resources for key communications programs
Work with Area communications colleagues to align on strategy and manage consistency in messaging
Support the Global Assurance BMC Leader in developing communications materials, managing BMC networks, creating processes, protocols and communications cadence with the Assurance BMC network and wider BMC function
Filter input from the Area perspective to Executive-level internal communication program development
Provide guidance, information and support to enable successful deployment of relevant internal programs
Support methods for driving innovation and change across the organization
Take an organizational-level view of implications; and manage competing forces to drive understanding, motivation and stakeholder value
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on BMC and Assurance issues, client and market trends and long-term implications for EY’s brand strategy generally, recognizing that our client service teams’ activities in the market will drive brand perception and that the Communications and Engagement approach will help drive market objectives.
Knowledge, Competency and Skill Requirements:
Demonstrate a good understanding of the Assurance business, in particular audit and the regulatory environment
Develop world-class and breakthrough strategic communications plans to turn vision into action
Demonstrate the ability to effectively manage senior stakeholders by building trust and confidence
Think strategically and demonstrate leadership by providing direction and advice to BMC colleagues on communications strategies
Deliver on Assurance practice and BMC strategic priorities; align BMC internal communications initiatives with EY’s performance agenda and revenue goals; achieve the desired results; and communicate the BMC value proposition
Proactively develop strong relationships with stakeholders and leaders across the Assurance Executive
Be a point of integration; connect all facets of the communications agenda when initiating, developing and implementing communications projects; enable knowledge sharing throughout the Assurance BMC network and the practice; develop an ability to synthesize information from others, especially from business leaders; help the business address its big issues though compelling communications activity; and serve as an organizational connector
Assert own ideas and persuade others; gain support and commitment from others; and mobilize people to take action on your behalf to support successful delivery of activities
Has input into the performance management and development process for professionals within Assurance Communications and Engagement, as well as the wider Assurance BMC team
Manages several communications support roles, as well as independent contractors/project consultants
Global and domestic travel will be required depending on business needs
Bachelor’s degree in marketing or other related discipline; MBA preferred
Proven ability to persuade, influence and respond to senior leaders and stakeholders
World-class copy writing, speech writing and presentation planning and delivery skills
Experience driving effective communication through digital media
Ability to balance conflicting direction and priorities and focus on the most important and impactful tasks
Proven ability to manage and translate complex business issues (within a regulatory environment) into compelling and transformational communications activity
Experience managing and working with a diverse global team
A high degree of influencing and networking skills
Outstanding verbal and non-verbal communications abilities and experience
Ability to operate under own direction and demonstrate high productive capacity
