This role sits within EY Seren’s Research and Insight team. You’ll be a passionate researcher, with an instinct to deliver great research in the teams we put together for clients, to help them improve existing services, invent new ones, and ultimately grow their businesses. Chemistry is what makes us tick. So as well as being proficient in qualitative research, able to plan and deliver design research projects, you will collaborate with other research and design disciplines. With guidance from more senior team members, you will fuse design research with our quantitative research, data analysis, and futures research teams. Working with our wider service design and build practices to apply your insights into the iterative and agile process, all with the goal of helping our clients provide products and services that help their customers progress in life. We don’t want to create insight reports that sit on shelves. We’re creating a system of applied research that is truly customer-centered. Your development as a Researcher is important. You will have opportunities to take on real responsibility for mid-sized projects and hone your craft with guidance from Lead Consultants.

Your key responsibilities

  • Manage research streams within mixed-practice EY Seren teams, leveraging the power of quant research, and drawing on the wider Research and Insight capability.

  • Apply your experience in research, providing hands-on planning and delivery, coaching Junior researchers and managing senior stakeholders from the client, EY and EY Seren teams.

  • Manage your project team through the work, in terms of both soft pastoral factors to ensure we maintain EY Seren’s values and high quality of care, as well as hard factors such as issues and risks, escalating to Lead Consultants and Practice Lead where necessary.

  • Work collaboratively with other Practices in EY Seren to combine the power of quant research with our company’s design, business and delivery expertise.

  • Provide teams and clients with a clear view on all research options available, working with Lead Consultants to plan pricing and resourcing.

  • Play an collaborative role in executing on the Practice’s strategy and plan for the year.

  • Adopt counselor role for one or more Junior Researchers.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Experience working with online quant research techniques: e.g. online surveys, website recruitment surveys, panel projects, etc.

  • Experience designing and managing both large-scale tracking programmes and ad-hoc surveys

  • A developed understanding of different types of quant research (e.g. NPS, segmentation, U&A etc.) and its impact on the client’s business.

  • An up-to-date awareness of new research initiatives and developments, particularly Voice of Customer, Voice of Employee and Customer Experience.

  • Demonstrable practical experience managing one or more simultaneous research project.

  • Strong organisational, project management and communication skills – particularly in delivering insightful client presentations up to senior level.

  • A high degree of numeracy, attention to detail.

  • Awareness of how your work integrates into wider new product and service design methods.

  • Strong problem-solving skills; strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience in working collaboratively across teams and business functions.

  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Extensive work experience in relevant research field (at least 3+ years)

  • Strong quant research skills: e.g. designing questionnaires / reports / presentations - particularly in developing actionable insight and recommendations from research findings.

  • Strong quant set-up and analysis skills: e.g. expert involvement in survey scripting, from advising on and checking set-up, to personally scripting online surveys; creating table, data and analysis specs; investigating data independently via excel or research software.

  • Advocate design thinking techniques in EY, EY Seren and client organisation.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience using software packages (e.g. Q, SPSS) for data cleaning and analysis.

  • Experience with advanced statistical techniques e.g. Cluster, Factor, PCA, regression analysis etc.

  • Experience working with UX and Analytics data.

  • Experience working with behavioural science / economics.

  • Experience working with systems thinking / theory.

  • Background in management consulting or other client facing professional services.
