You will help our clients navigate the complex world of modern data engineering and analytics. We'll look to you to provide our clients with a unique business perspective on how data science and analytics can transform and improve their entire organization – starting with key business issues they face. Our Machine Learning Engineer must be able to dig into large structured and unstructured data sets using statistical & research methods, machine learning, and subject matter expertise to find insights and solve often poorly or loosely defined problems.
This role will require a very methodical mindset combined with a keen set of skills in mathematics, statistics, algorithms, machine learning, and technology. In addition to being technically sound, this role also requires the knack for quickly gaining functional understanding of client data and client context to drive impactful analyses.
Analyses will need to be well documented and presented- ability to present findings to clients and simply explain complex analyses is essential. Industrialization of findings will also be important. This role will need to steward one-off analyses into recurring metrics and/or published data visualizations. You will work within a larger analytics team and needs to have a cursory understanding of data engineering, visualization design & development, and cloud infrastructure.
Your key responsibilities
You'll spend most of your time working with client(s) to deliver the latest data focused technologies and practices to design, build and maintain scalable and robust solutions that unify, enrich, and analyze data from multiple sources.
Also included:
Applying data mining and statistical analysis techniques like hypothesis testing, segmentation, and modelling to analyze large amounts of data
Helping our clients make data-driven decisions by working with structured and unstructured data sets, building out predictive models and advising our clients on data mining leading practices
Building and applying data analysis algorithms (data mining, statistics, machine learning, natural language processing, sentiment analysis, text mining, etc.) as appropriate
Unifying, enriching, and analyzing client data to derive new insights and opportunities
Skills and attributes for success
Clearly communicating findings, recommendations, and opportunities to improve data systems and solutions
Deep understanding of and ability to teach data science, concepts, tools, features, functions and benefits of different approaches to apply them
Drive to seek out information to learn about emerging methodologies and technologies
Clarifying problems by driving to understand the true issue
Solving problems by incorporating data into decision making
Extensive experience connecting to various data sources and structures: APIs, NoSQL, RDBMS, Hadoop, S3, Blob Storage, etc.
Deep understanding of statistical modeling as well as data ingestion/cleansing methods
Strong skills with R or SAS
To qualify for the role, you must have
Eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Bachelor's degree related degree
4+ Years of related professional experience
DOD or Government experience preferred
Extensive experience connecting to various data sources and structures: APIs, NoSQL, RDBMS, Hadoop, S3, Blob Storage, etc.
Deep understanding of statistical modeling as well as data ingestion/cleansing methods
Strong skills with R or SAS
Strong Python coding experience
Experience with SQL, Hive, and Pig
Experience in solving problems using at least two of the following: Python, R, SAS, SPSS, and Java
Experience using data mining and statistical tools
Solid pattern recognition and predictive modelling skills
Working knowledge of recommendation engines, scoring systems, and A/B testing
Must have worked with multiple tools/libraries such as Weka, NumPy, PyMongo, R, etc.
Understanding of machine learning algorithms like k-NN, naive bayes, decision trees, SVM experience, among other methods
Experience with Azure Data Factory, DataBricks, and AzureML a plus
Familiarity with at least one data visualization development tool, e.g. - Tableau, PowerBI, D3.js
Data competition experience (e.g. on Kaggle platform) and past winning records are a plus
Ability to write clean, maintainable code and experience using Git as a code repository
Experience on Agile projects a plus
Experience on projects utilizing continuous delivery and deployment methodologies a plus
Ideally, you'll also have
Thorough business understanding of data science application and ability to communicate with key decision-makers
Communication is essential, must be able to listen and understand the question and develop and deliver clear insights.
Due to the nature of our work in the Government and Public Sector, work may be required to be completed at client, EY and/or contractor sites. Our goal is to assign professionals to projects within a commutable distance of their work location office. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs. Candidates should be willing to travel 20 – 30% or more

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $88,300 to $145,800. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $106,000 to $165,600. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
