We’ll look to you to provide our clients with a unique business perspective on how to build tools that can transform and improve their entire organization – starting with key business issues they face. Our Cloud Engineer Manager opportunity requires skills in the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of new and innovative cloud solutions. You will be leading cloud engineering efforts on our product development teams, working in tandem with product managers to help teams ideate on the art of the possible while setting realistic expectations. We are not building cloud solutions that only meet the ask; we are building solutions that cater to an organization’s nuanced needs, keeping Humans@Center and delivering Technology@Speed. This role will focus on EY’s U.S. government defense clients to deliver professional services and manage business development activities.
Your key responsibilities
You’ll spend most of your time working with our product development teams to deliver custom software development solutions in the cloud that tackle frontline mission priorities.
Also included:
Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable, secure, and efficient cloud architectures that meet the organization's needs and align with strategic goals.
Work with functional and product leads to manage the cloud aspects.
Foster relationships with client personnel at appropriate levels. Consistently deliver quality client services. Drive high-quality work products within expected timeframes and on budget. Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes. Manage expectations of client service delivery. Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business.
Demonstrate in-depth technical capabilities and professional knowledge. Demonstrate ability to assimilate new knowledge. Possess good business acumen. Remain current on new developments in advisory services capabilities and industry knowledge.
Skills and attributes for success
Technical Expertise
Cloud Platforms: Extensive experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Proficiency in cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, databases, and security.
Architectural Best Practices: Deep knowledge of cloud architecture principles and best practices for designing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
Microservices and Containerization: Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and managing applications in the cloud.
Cloud Security: In-depth understanding of cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, network security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Risk Management: Ability to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in cloud environments and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the integrity and availability of cloud services.
Leadership and Team Management
Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Experience in managing team dynamics, resolving conflicts, and promoting professional growth.
Project Management: Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex cloud projects on time and within budget. Proficiency in Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello)
Stakeholder Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, including military personnel, executives, and cross-functional teams. Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
A successful Cloud Engineer will deliver results through:
Design and Implement Scalable Cloud Solutions: Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and efficient cloud architectures that meet the organization's needs. Ensure that cloud solutions are aligned with strategic goals and can handle future growth and demand.
Optimize Cloud Performance and Cost: Continuously monitor and analyze cloud infrastructure performance to identify areas for optimization. Implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the overall performance of cloud services.
Ensure Robust Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain comprehensive security measures to protect cloud infrastructure and data. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, mitigating risks and safeguarding sensitive information.
Foster Team Excellence and Collaboration: Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions.
Drive Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and industry trends. Identify opportunities for innovation and implement cutting-edge solutions to enhance cloud infrastructure and services, driving continuous improvement and staying ahead of the competition
To qualify for the role, you must have
Eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Bachelor's degree in related field
DoD or government experience preferred
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in cloud engineering, architecture, and management, with a proven track record of designing, deploying, and managing cloud solutions.
Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a team of cloud engineers, including mentoring, performance management, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Proven experience in leading and mentoring a team of UI/UX designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Ability to manage team dynamics, resolve conflicts, and promote professional growth
Engagement leadership experience including: managing junior level consulting staff, providing regular status updates, and monitoring project economics and hands on technical expertise as well as managing client relationships
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
Due to the nature of our work in the Government and Public Sector, work may be required to be completed at client, EY and/or contractor sites. Our goal is to assign professionals to projects within a commutable distance of their work location office. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs. Candidates should be willing to travel on average 25% to 30% or more in a hybrid environment.

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $141,200 to $258,900. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $169,500 to $294,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
