Join our Core Business Services (CBS) team and you will help support the important business enablement functions that keep our organization running strong. Job Summary:
The Paralegal II works with General Counsel’s Office (GCO) attorneys, auditors, and outside counsel with case management on the GCO's more complex litigation matters, including document preservation, collection, review and production. Additional responsibilities include the preparation and dissemination of legal-related correspondence, maintenance of legal files and databases, legal research, proofreading and cite-checking
Key Responsibilities:
Drafts, produces and disseminates Firm-wide communications for the preservation and collection of evidence in response to document requests, government regulatory inquiries and subpoenas.
Communicates directly with individual departments to identify and gather documents and data responsive to subpoenas and other formal requests. Responsible for compliance with document preservation requirements.
Manages document productions (the act of producing documents in response to a court order generally in the form of a subpoena) for more complex subpoenas and litigation by coordinating the gathering of responsive hard copy and electronic documents from practice offices via gathering memos, organizing responsive documents, arranging for imaging/copying and document production with external vendors.
Gathers factual information which provides background to the case from various internal sources such as the Talent organization and the various technology support functions.
Facilitates the production and review of Firm electronic workpapers from the firm’s proprietary Audit workpaper applications and other firm record repositories in response to document production requests.
Identifies and collects other appropriate potentially relevant data, documents, and or information.
Reviews and analyze documents for content, relevance, privilege, and/or confidential materials prior to production
Review documents for accuracy and completeness.
Communicates as necessary with engagement team members both verbally and in writing.
Maintains detailed indexes and diaries of productions for litigation, investigatory and subpoena matters.
Digests, analyzes, abstracts and indexes transcripts.
Collects and/or identifies deposition and trial testimony for input into legal databases.
Creates and maintains legal databases.
Prepares purchase orders and coordinates vendor jobs.
May assist attorneys in drafting of legal documents.
Utilize Firm-wide databases to identify sources of relevant materials
Assist attorneys in interviewing and preparing witnesses for depositions.
Maintain documentation of key discussions/decision inherent to the case.
Exercises independent judgment to identify issues that require attorney input for resolution.
Uses prior case experience and Firm knowledge to identify issues for escalation that could otherwise jeopardize Ernst & Young’s (EY) standing in a case.
Reviews and summarizes abstracts and transcript data and creates indexes so material is easily referenced by GCO attorneys and auditors.
Assesses the thoroughness or completeness of EY responses to document requests, regulatory investigations and subpoenas.
Some overtime expected.
Minimal travel may be required.
Work is not seasonal (work flow based on current litigation needs
To qualify, candidates must have:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Advanced paralegal skills including document production, document review and electronic discovery.
Familiarity with fundamentals of the United States (US) legal system.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface effectively with all levels of EY personnel.
Excellent computer skills in the Office Suite (primarily Word and Excel and/or Access.)
Strong knowledge of the Firm's auditing standards and internal policies and procedures
Willingness to take initiative; be highly motivated and ambitious
A minimum 4 years of litigation or applicable experience
Ideally, you’ll also have

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $58,900 to $106,800. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $70,600 to $121,400. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
