EY is currently seeking a leader within our internal tax department, this is not a client facing role. You will manage and oversee tax research, planning, and tax compliance of the firm. You will be responsible for timely final review and delivery of the U.S and related entity state and local income tax compliance and quarterly estimates, as well as Federal support. You will interact with senior members of the internal tax department and other business leaders within the firm. In addition, you will lead and manage multiple tax projects for Partnership Operations to support US and Global tax objectives.
Your key responsibilities
Apply an understanding of complex tax concepts and tax knowledge of state and local law changes to existing firm processes throughout the year with regards to the partnership’s state and local tax planning.
Develops innovative tax planning ideas that increase department efficiencies and reduce tax burden to the firm’s partners.
Review of all firm composite, withholding, and state informational reporting. Assist with Federal issues as needed.
Partner with tax director to lead the internal compliance group and develop the skills of more junior members of the team
Thoroughly and accurately analyze information. Prepare practical and creative solutions various tax situations and arrive at appropriate conclusions. Lead in developing recommendations and implementation plans. Make informed decisions in complex and judgmental areas.
Assist with state audits, including correspondence, compilation of data requests and audit coordination.
Oversee staff in connection with the preparation of the firm’s partnership and composite tax returns.
Review workpapers, tax returns and related projects prepared by staff members.
Review of the annual updates of state source income and apportionment formulas to reflect regulatory changes.
Assist with the review of federal and state K-1s packages for the firm and related entities.
Skills and attributes for success
You will be working closely with leaders throughout the firm in developing and implementing tax planning. You will manage your own independent day to day responsibilities, while maintaining the overall goals of the entire team in mind. You will research and make technical determinations with the tax matters partners and partnership tax director for input and further consideration. You will be responsible for developing the team of individuals and providing feedback on a regular basis.
To qualify for the role, you must have
Bachelor's degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, tax, or equivalent experience.
Approximately 15+ years of relevant tax experience or the equivalent experience in business or industry.
Strong technical skill in partnership and multi-state taxation.
Broad exposure to state, local and federal income taxation as well as worldwide tax issues.
Excellent supervisory, analytical, and leadership ability.
Ideally, you’ll also have
CPA or EA (enrolled agent) and advanced degree in tax or law.
Commitment to learning in a tax technology environment.
Proficient knowledge of automated tax processing systems and Microsoft Office tools, including hands-on experience with advance Excel features, Thomson Reuters GoSystems, BNA Superforms and tax research applications.
