Job Summary:

As a Risk Management Team Lead, you will become a key member of EY’s Commercial & Risk Management (C&RM) team within the Global Data Office (GDO). You will be working closely with the C&RM leader and will be responsible for implementing the strategy of commercial and risk policies as they pertain to the development and leverage of shared data assets across the Firm. The development of policies and their continued enforcement will be critical to the success of EY’s journey to an information led organization. This role will work closely with C&RM and GDO leadership to bridge the gap between functional teams, technology and governance processes to ensure that EY can enforce the highest level of ethical standards for data usage.

You and the C&RM Leader will collaborate with Functional leadership (GCO, Risk, and Independence) to systematically define data policies for data use across five key usage patterns. You will be working with global business executives and account teams to implement EY’s policy framework (known as the 5c’s) and confirm that an expanding set of data usage patterns are covered within the policy framework. Implementation and communication of a data policy roadmap as outlined by C&RM and GDO leadership, and account team execution will be part of your domain - to ensure data policy governance is being executed within EY’s markets, including the capture of policy changes, as determined by functional areas of the Firm.

Additionally, the Risk Management Lead will liaise with other areas of the GDO (security, platform, architecture and other governance areas) to support the design and enablement of technology and processes upon which the governance function will be executed. You will be taking an active role in providing policy and governance requirements for technology enablement and organizational design. This will require working closing across the GDO to support the development and execution (DevOps) of governance processes. You will take an active role as part of Data Governance team to ensure appropriate support for end-to-end Data Governance Services.

This requires that you demonstrate your ability to expand your area of influence beyond “traditional data governance” and contribute towards a contiguous and market leading data services. To satisfy these objectives you must be skilled at gathering requirements and leading workshops as a business consultant. In the ever changing landscape, you must be able to quickly capture and understand how evolving technology can support and enhance these requirements.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Act as a business consultant to identify the core requirements of the data risk management landscape and act as a trusted advisor to a variety of internal stakeholders. (Service lines, functional teams)

  • Work with C&RM and GDO leadership in implementing the overall vision for the global data C&RM function and effectively and consistently communicate this to key stakeholders.

  • Lead the execution and maintenance of data policy frameworks, including data use case execution and T&C’s policy roadmaps, for a segment of EY’s business that reflect business direction and opportunities

  • Pursues and builds relationships across business and IT to gather intelligence and bring insight about the wider data and policy landscape

  • Gathers feedback from Account Teams, Markets and Services Lines to inform policy execution, especially around client contracts and statements of work

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a process and repository for the documentation of Governance best practices to keep pace with data services and processes released by the GDO

  • Support the implementation of an ongoing communication plan to educate key stakeholders on data governance, specifically in the areas of client contracting (T&C’s)

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • Provide thought leadership into the evolution of the Governance function, working collaboratively with executives and peers.

  • Provide guidance and thought leadership to solution and account teams so that services are built and delivered in line with Governance Principles

  • Pursues and builds relationships across business and IT to gather intelligence and bring insight about the wider picture

  • Responsible for the development of standard processes through the Global Data Office

  • Provide input into and lead implementation of relevant and meaningful roadmaps and concepts and other deliverables that enables the overall business for better performance

  • Support the development and maintenance of the strategic end to end Data Lifecycle management

Supervision Responsibilities:

  • Effectively coordinates work with Senior and Junior C&RM Analysts on the team to ensure successful delivery

  • Works independently under minimal guidance with regular alignment with GDO and C&RM leadership

  • Performance measured only on outcomes

  • Promotes strategic direction of the department to align with overall GDO objectives

  • Recognizes and manages risks in area of responsibility, putting in place appropriate mitigation plans and communicating these to avoid surprises with key stakeholders

  • Delivers results through others, leveraging the ability to lead through influence

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively run workshops to gather requirements and gain consensus

  • Strong analytical skills, good knowledge of policy processes and strong team leadership.

  • Strong relationship building skills and executive presence

  • Ability to constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the firm

  • Ability to direct the point of optimization from the project to the enterprise

  • Should be well versed with latest governance and business trends

  • Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change

  • Excellent management skills, coupled with exceptional judgment and tact

  • Knowledge of industry standard Enterprise Architecture Frameworks, (e.g. Zachman, TOGAF, DODAF) recommended, but not required

  • Knowledge of emerging policy requirements (e.g. GDPR, Project Open Data, HIPPA) recommended, but not required.

  • Knowledge of industry standard Data Governance Framework, (e.g. The DGI Data Governance Framework) or other Industry/Vendor frameworks required

  • Strategic skills to develop long-term visions and the ability to translate them into actionable roadmaps that are broadly accepted

  • Ability to translate business and functional needs into governance requirements, and estimate their impact across the data lifecycle

  • Ability to rapidly comprehend the changes to key business processes and the impact on the overall governance framework

  • Ability to understand and integrate cultural differences and motives and to lead virtual cross-cultural, cross-border teams

  • English language skills - excellent written and verbal communication

  • An overall understanding of the business objectives of service lines and Core Functional department

  • Ability to work and team with a multitude of different people - including business customers, Functional managers, IT project managers and IT engineers - to balance demand

  • Self-starter attitude, working independently under almost no guidance

  • Ability to make decisions in situations of ambiguity and the absence of complete facts

Other Requirements:

  • Flexible work hours required to accommodate a globally dispersed team and stakeholders

  • Global travel may be required periodically

  • Long hours may occasionally be required to meet project commitments and/or preparing materials for clients (internal and external)

Job Requirements:

  • A degree in Business, Computer Science, a related discipline or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred, but not required.


10+ years of total work experience consisting of:

  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on information architecture and governance design and implementation. Experienced in IT with tangible, relevant and demonstrated experience with the analysis of complex business processes and data governance needs and development of re-engineering opportunities

  • Minimum of 3 years of having been engaged within a multi-cultural, multi-disciplined, globally dispersed team

  • Proven Track record within Data Governance with significant influence on overall direction of data policies and data lifecycle management

  • Developing and monitoring the delivery of efficient and effective processes to diverse and complex data problems

Certification Requirements:

  • Any EA, Data Governance, Applicable Vendor or Industry certification is preferred not mandatory
