The opportunity

The Region Service Line Finance Advisor is the Finance relationship Owner (FRO) for the Tax Service Line Managing Partner. They serve as a key member of the Tax SL Leadership team. The Region Service Line Advisor is expected to understand the clients’ needs and coordinate delivery of relevant finance services in a seamless fashion by collaborating with the other key FRO roles such as, the Service Line Finance Lead, Region Finance Lead and Region Markets Finance Advisor. They also will team with various Finance support structures to provide analytical support, functional expertise, reporting solutions, transaction processing, and sharing of best practices.

Your key responsibilities

  • Direct the strategic delivery of Tax SL business' finance initiatives.

  • Prepare, review and consolidate annual budgets and forecasts/projections for Tax SL.

  • Provide technical financial advice, knowledge and counsel to others within the finance discipline.

  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the line of business.

  • Assist the service line of business with the day-to-day management of the inventory, including the billing, collecting and revenue day management within the service line.

  • Monitor and track financial results against goals and historical performance leveraging reports from the Reporting Center of Excellence (COE).

  • Collaborate with Reporting COE to develop and maintain primary financial reporting solutions to deliver actionable, accurate, and timely distribution of critical information.

  • Provide review of critical measurement information such as profitability, inventory levels, realization, utilization, staffing levels, indirect and practice-related expense controls, and cash collections offering timely insight and proactive recommendations for improvement.

  • Support the SLFL as a key member of the SL Finance Leadership team.

  • Drive key methods and processes at the direction of Executive Finance (e.g. financial planning); ensures the SL Finance Lead is appropriately informed and advised

  • Support the Group CFO Service Line via the Area Service Line Finance Advisor and communicates Region-specific perspectives

  • Lead training for Service Line client serving and finance personnel.

  • Participate in firm finance initiatives and subcommittees as needed

Analytical/decision making responsibilities

Strong analytical skills coupled with decision making capabilities are essential for the Region/Service Line Advisor role. Common areas where you will apply these skills are:

  • Leading finance service line change initiatives across the Region/SL

  • Teaming with other key FROs to ensure Exceptional Client Service to the Service Line Managing Partner and Service Line Leadership Team

  • Assessing the drivers of financial results with constant focus on improvement and rapid course correction where necessary

  • Analysing data in order to form and communicate a crisp view of the financial metrics to the Service Line Leadership

  • Continuously advising Region/Service Line Managing Partner and Service Line CFO on expected financial performance vs. plan/forecast based upon analytics such as trend analysis and modelling of forward-looking scenarios

  • Forms and communicates a clear and concise view of financial performance

  • Synthesizes and communicates detailed financial information in support of effective decision making

  • Utilizes sound financial practices and seeks leading practices to support operational excellence

  • Provides insight into forward looking performance based or scenario modeling which is informed by internal and external data

Understanding of the business

  • Understands the NextWave strategy and applies constantly to analyze and advise on financial performance

  • Has a deep understanding of the drivers of financial performance and applies constantly to analyze and advise on progress against targets

  • Knowledgeable of EY capabilities and services

  • Demonstrates appreciation and respect of varying cultures – both corporate and geographical

Supervision Responsibilities:

The Region Service Line Advisor provides leadership to all region service line finance staff, to ensure Exceptional Client Service to Service Line Leadership.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate and/or professional certification in a business-related subject matter or equivalent experience (i.e. Accounting, Finance) is required to perform this position.

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required to perform this position. A general understanding of the external services offered by the firm and the overall area/regional markets landscape would be beneficial. EY experience is preferred.

  • CPA or other professional certification helpful
