Our Sustainability Tax practice provides holistic site services related to sustainability taxes and incentives to support our clients on their sustainability journey. Our services include assisting clients in monitoring and modeling emerging sustainability tax policies and regulations, capturing incentives and tax credits for sustainability-related investments, sustainability reporting, and other social and governance matters.
The opportunity
EY’s Sustainability Tax team plays a critical role as client advisors in sustainability planning and making positive societal change assisted by enabling client use of government grants, incentives and tax credits that are intended to spark sustainability transformations. We work with clients to provide objective advice related to emerging policies and the impacts of sustainability taxes both domestically and globally, while also assisting them with understanding, capturing and complying with the myriad of incentives as they look to decarbonize their value chain.
We're seeking exceptional talent to support exceptional client services and to fuel the Americas and Global growth of our Sustainability Tax practice. Mentored by nationally recognized professionals (including our firms most senior talent) you'll be a trusted advisor helping our clients to make strategic decisions and to interpret sustainability tax policies and regulations. You will also assist in applying for government for grants, incentives and tax credits related to our clients’ investments in renewable energy, sustainable innovation and other emission reduction initiatives. You will also provide tax advisory and compliance services related to environmental taxes, as well as social and governance matters.
You'll be an essential part of a team providing high-quality technical work to clients. You'll balance your time between multiple tasks, supporting EY’s Global Sustainability Tax team in researching, collecting and analyzing data to inform client policy decisions, and advising clients related to taxes, grants, tax credits and incentives while building your foundational knowledge. As part of that, you'll need to possess interpersonal skills, be able to absorb and observe, and be flexible in a rapidly changing environment.
At the same time, you will help to build a better working world by assisting the business community to effectuate and accelerate achievement of their sustainability goals by advising clients as they take action in response to government taxes and regulations aimed to positively impact these global environmental challenges.
Your key responsibilities
In your role as a senior within EY’s Sustainability Tax practice, you will work with project teams across the globe to advise clients related to sustainability taxes, regulations, and incentives. You will assist with the development of client deliverables, which includes project reports, tax and incentives analysis, benchmarking studies, and grant/incentive applications. As a Senior in Sustainability Tax, you will also have internal client responsibilities to assist EY client service professionals understand proposed and newly passed legislation as it relates to Sustainability Tax matters and assist in developing solutions which will be proposed to clients. You will also be tasked with assisting in the global go-to-market efforts around new and developing solutions across ESG.
Skills and attributes for Success
Supporting the full engagement life cycle of Sustainability Tax related advisory engagements including:
Managing projects, including scheduling meetings, planning resources and supporting overall client needs
Managing project processes, such as writing proposals, drafting Statements of Work, reporting on progress and initiating client billing
Developing client deliverables such as grants and incentives applications, incentives ROI analysis and documentation, tax and incentives analysis, benchmarking studies, and tax advisory memorandums
Delivering value to internal and external clients by identifying innovative and leading trends in sustainability by following federal, state and local legislative, statutory, and case law developments
Assist internal stakeholders in understanding new, proposed taxes and regulations, and the development of solutions to assist our clients
To qualify for this role, you must have
B.S or B.A., prefer also JD, CPA, LLM, MT and/or progress toward Enrolled Agent status
A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in a sustainability or incentive related role
Strong analytical, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, as well as a strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail and an entrepreneurial approach to work
Strong proficiency and a high level of comfort in engaging with people of various backgrounds and beliefs
Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Flexibility and a willingness to travel

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $71000 to $117300. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $85200 to $133300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
