The opportunity
The benefits team is responsible for administering the firm’s defined contribution plan, defined benefit plan, disability insurance, and health, dental, legal, long-term care, and life insurance plans in compliance with state and federal regulations. You’ll assist in day-to-day pension plan administration.
Your key responsibilities
As a Benefits Specialist, Senior Associate, you’ll be responsible for researching and responding to questions from partners and employees regarding interpretation of retirement benefit plans, including eligibility, vesting and benefit calculations. You will process monthly reconciliation of pension payments and prepare banking wires required for benefit payments. You’ll respond to qualified domestic relations orders and work with plan actuaries to prepare calculations. You will be responsible for compliance of retirement benefit administration with federal law, including IRS and Department of Labor regulation. You’ll respond to administrative and policy questions as needed.
Skills and attributes for success
Ability to support the annual retirement plan audit process
Support the process to locate missing and unresponsive participants
Manage the processing of appeals
Provide vendors with the appropriate documentation for retirement plan inquires
Maintain vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations
Assist with the review of plan documents and summary plan descriptions, including nonqualified executive pension program
Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the administration, design, database technical specifications, and financial aspects of retirement benefit programs
Ability to identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting retirement benefit functions and responsible for policies, procedures, and program compliance
Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of principles and practices of a specific professional discipline
To qualify for the role, you must have
Broad decision-making ability for the activities and projects within scope of responsibilities
Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive working relationships with both internal teams and external vendors
Adept at exercising strong judgement, set priorities, organize, implement, and administer effectively in all areas of accountability
Excellent computer skills, especially spreadsheets, databases, word processing and vendor software systems
Demonstrated maturity in dealing with different level of employees in a fast-paced environment and the ability to maintain confidentiality of all employee details
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Approximately 2-4 years related experience
Ideally, you'll also have
Knowledge of and ability to use HRIS systems and other various computer software packages
Strong customer service skills and attention to detail
Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws pertaining to benefits administration
Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) certification

What we offer
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $61500 to $108300. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $73800 to $123100. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
