Program Mercury - Senior Development Lead

Core Business Services

Requisition # SEC001GI

Post Date Dec 18, 2018

Join our Core Business Services (CBS) team and you will help support the important business enablement functions that keep our organization running strong. As a CBS professional, you will work across teams to provide the knowledge, resources and tools that help EY deliver exceptional quality service to our clients, win in the marketplace and support EY’s growth and profitability. Major teams within CBS include Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Enterprise Support Services, Brand Marketing and Communications, Business Development, Knowledge and Risk Management.

The way EY people work together, and with clients, is becoming increasingly influenced by technology, and this trend is only likely to accelerate. As part of IT you may be responsible for large strategic enterprise application development, enterprise security, business intelligence, cloud and data center services, as well as other technology products. IT plans, develops and manages all technology used in EY to enhance service delivery, drive revenue growth and profitability and strengthen our competitive advantage as the most globally integrated organization in professional services.

With so many offerings, you have the opportunity to develop your career through a broad scope of engagements, mentoring and formal learning. That’s how we develop outstanding leaders who team to deliver on our promises to all of our stakeholders, and in so doing, play a critical role in building a better working world for our people, for our clients and for our communities. Sound interesting? Well this is just the beginning. Because whenever you join, however long you stay, the exceptional EY experience lasts a lifetime.

The Mercury Senior Development lead will be fairly autonomous and whilst it will report directly to the EY Technology Partner for the program, the Partner will provide very limited management top cover. Therefore, the individual will take full accountability for reporting progress and managing the expectations of a number of senior partners from the business (up to Global Executive level). The Major releases will be in the region of 5,000 to 7,500 hours of development effort and the Senior Development Lead will manage the relationship with our Systems Integrator at a Director and senior level. A Major Release will take between 9 and 12 months to deliver and will involve a team in the region of 120 to 150 members who will need to be continually and effectively motivated to deliver against the plan and budget. This role requires a seasoned, experienced leader who can bring a wealth of demonstrable strategic experience with a focus on continual improvement, proactively looking for ways of improving the overall technical delivery model in order to reduce the overall delivery risk and drive further cost efficiencies.

This individual although primarily accountable for the development of the Mercury Software Product will provide management oversight of the Program Test Manager during the planning and execution of the technical test phases (Functional Unit Testing, System Testing, Systems Integration Testing and Non-Functional Testing) in order to ensure that the Mercury Software Product meets the quality criteria agreed with our Systems Integrator from not just a functional perspective but also that it meets the expectations of the Mercury Support Team (i.e. adequate error handling and logging, movement of data around the system can be reconciled, etc.).

The Mercury Software Product on an annual basis will be enhanced through:

  • A single Major Release, which will include a technical refresh to the underlying technology (SAP) and significant Functional changes and improvements

  • Two Continuous Improvement Releases, which will be time-boxed and include functional improvement and technical optimizations, and

  • A Deployment Release, which will deliver local statutory, legal and tax requirements in order to support additional Member Firms moving onto the Product

In order to achieve the above, a Senior Development Lead is required to manage the multiple delivery partners (internal and external) to deliver the requirements that make up these releases against the agreed plan and to the required quality. The Senior Development Lead will need to take a holistic view of the releases in order to understand any dependencies and constraints and through a small team of project managers will then need to manage the multiple delivery partners keeping a close eye on the cost of delivery without compromising the quality of a release.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and drive technical activities associated to a new software release from baselining requirements to transitioning to Hypercare

  • Oversee the management of our third party delivery partners and internal EY Technology teams in the delivery of a software release ensuring that they follow the SDLC and meet entry and exit criteria and each phase

  • Take full accountability for ensuring all new changes are properly impact assessed, assessed for alignment to business case and adhere to design principles (functional and non-functional) before being approved

  • Ensure full and complete traceability is maintained for all new requirements across the SDLC

  • Ensure robust controls are in place and being followed during technical design, development, testing, code promotion across environments and during handover to the support organization

  • Responsible for assessing the risk potential to a release of any late requested changes balancing the risk to Production stability

  • Draw on the EY Technology QA Team to sample quality of third party deliverables

Knowledge, skills and experience requirements:

  • Hands-On SAP Development and Configuration background

  • Experience of managing multiple delivery partners to deliver overlapping software releases

  • Experience of contract and commercial management of third parties with knowledge of how to demonstrate that third parties are delivering value for money

  • Frequent travel to India is required, up to once a month
