Role – Asia Pacific Tax Associate Director
Function – Global Internal Tax Group
Location – Sydney
Rank – Associate Director (Senior Manager)
Basic of Hiring – Maternity Cover – 1 September 2018 to 31 December 2019
Assisting the Asia Pacific Internal Tax Group Directors to provide tax advice to EY Asia Pacific Management, Country and Area Service Line Management and client serving engagement teams.
Work closely with colleagues from the Global Internal Tax Group in the US and EMEIA.
Cross Broder Travel Support – provision of tax advice to EY legal entities providing personnel on cross border projects within Asia Pacific.
Cross border contracting and billing – providing advice and guidance to engagement teams on the withholding taxes that will be deducted throughout Asia Pacific on settlement of invoices for services provided.
Asia Pacific GST / VAT – providing advice to cross-border engagement teams in relation to applicability of output VAT/GST and recoverability of input GST / VAT paid.
Mobility – provision of tax advice in relation to transfer of personnel.
Ongoing ad hoc advice – With the AP Global Internal Tax Group Tax Directors to provide ad hoc tax advice.
Academic & Technical Skills
Law / Commerce Degree – Tax Law & Commercial Law majors.
CPA / ICCA / LLB Post graduate qualifications.
Experience in Professional Practice Tax Advisory or Tax Director Function of a multinational corporate.
Senior Manager – 6-8 year plus experience with a range of tax skills including individual taxation, corporate taxation, international taxation and exposure to indirect taxes.
Experience with tax regimes in Asia Pacific, with a focus on Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Korea.
Reasonable understanding of basic accounting, including P&L and balance sheet review, general ledger and payroll processing.
Good Excel and Word skills.
Ability to work with minimal oversight.
Creative with an inquiring mind.
Ability to approach new issues and problem solve.
Ability to train EY teams on tax issues to improve their ability to work with the Global internal Tax Group.
Fluent English (written & spoken).
Foreign language skills (Hokkien, Mandarin, Korean) useful but not necessary.
Effective business written communication skills.
Ability to meet and gain trust of EY Asia Pacific and country firm management.
Confidence and ability to meet and discuss complex issues with EY Country / Area Management and senior tax partners.
Ability to work with people across AP whose first language is not English.
Ability to undertake limited travel within AP (we will work with candidates if difficult).
Ability to participate in evening and early morning conference calls with team members located in the USA and Europe.
