Join our Core Business Services (CBS) team and you will help support the important business enablement functions that keep our organisation running strong. As a CBS professional, you will work across teams to provide the knowledge, resources and tools that help EY deliver exceptional quality service to our clients, win in the marketplace and support EY’s growth and profitability. Major teams within CBS include Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Enterprise Support Services, Brand Marketing and Communications, Business Development, Knowledge and Risk Management.

Join our Finance team and you will help enable EY client account teams and management to run the business effectively. You’ll help to improve engagement profitability, manage enterprise wide risk and support market development activities. You will support EY planning, reporting and forecasting and analysis, or help EY people manage day-to-day activities, such as managing engagements, process and auditing time and expense or invoice processing. You’ll also work with other parts of our organisation, sharing your financial experience and insights to achieve specific goals. You’ll get all the support you need to stay on top of regulations — and the advice and help you‘ll need to meet your own professional goals.

About the opportunity

The primary responsibility of this role is the overall management and strategic development of the Oceania Accounting Operations and Oceania Payroll functions, which includes Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. This includes ensuring the firm complies with all statutory, EY global policy and compliance requirements and the accurate processing of all payroll payment and statutory requirements. The role also takes the finance lead on all business acquisitions made across EY Oceania.

This role is full time, but will provide for flexible work arrangements.

In your role as an Oceania Controller, Finance you’ll:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Accounting Operations and Oceania Payroll teams to ensure all activities are completed effectively

  • Ensure key objectives and met and delivered as required such as year-end reporting and audit requirements, consolidated financial statements and pro bono reporting

  • Oversee the management of the work flow priorities of the general ledger team located in China.

  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced payroll provider (ADP) to ensure accurate and timely payruns are completed and all payments are made as required

  • Actively act as the knowledge lead on all business acquisitions made across EY Oceania.

  • Proactively share advice, lessons learned and ideas to ensure successful acquisitions and integrations.

About you

We’re looking for people with the following experience:

  • Degree-level education

  • Membership of Chartered Accountants Australian and New Zealand (CAANZ) or certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Australia

  • Significant experience in finance, with at least five years in senior management

  • Experience in managing professional staff and proven ability to motivate a team

  • Previous experience in a professional service environment

  • Experience in using a payroll system and knowledge of payroll legislation

  • Experience in managing offshore teams

  • Experience in business acquisitions

  • High level of interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills and experience liaison and negotiation at a senior level

  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritise well and work under pressure to meet deadlines/timeframes

  • Hard working with a proactive, positive and co-operative attitude

  • Experience in new system implementation and system upgrade work be advantageous
