The immigration professionals within EY’s Global Immigration network, provide a range of business immigration legal services to multinational clients who require employees to work in locations where the employee requires work authorization from the local authorities. EY Law LLP’s immigration team focuses on assisting clients with Canadian and US immigration legal advice and compliance, as well as the management of global immigration for our Canadian and US-based global clients.

The Opportunity:

The role of Immigration Program Manager involves day-to-day management and oversight over a specific area of the immigration practice. This may include a focus on the management of local and/or global client engagements or may focus on the management of an immigration operations function. The Immigration Program Manager will supervise and manage Immigration Staff, Seniors, and/or Supervising Seniors who may report directly, or indirectly to the Program Manager. The Program Manager will report to a Senior Associate, Senior Manager, and/or Partner of the immigration practice.

Your key responsibilities:

Core responsibilities for Immigration Program Management roles that focus on global engagement management:

  • Assist in the development of new global immigration opportunities, including assisting with proposals, gathering and consolidating information from the global network (such as fees), participating in client presentations, and conducting demonstrations of process and technology.

  • Drive implementation and transition procedures for new global engagements including developing project plan, establishing engagement-specific processes and protocols, and training/coordinating the global network.

  • Drive services integration with other EY teams, including Global Mobility Tax, and PAS Advisory.

  • Manage, drive and co-ordinate the day-to-day activity of global immigration engagements including managing escalations (from client and from EY network) and serving as the main point of contact for the corporate client.

  • Monitor and manage client expectations and EY deliverables to agreed Key Performance Indicators.

  • Manage and deliver weekly/quarterly/annual meetings with the corporate client.

  • Manage and deliver reports and analytics to the global client.

  • Manage and deliver consolidated monthly billing to the global client.

  • Manage and implement continuous improvement on the global engagement including technology enablement, streamlining of process, and automation.

  • Own, drive and manage assigned continuous improvement projects for national practice.

  • Effective financial management of assigned engagements including staff utilization, WIP management, expense management, revenue, margin, and collections.

Core responsibilities for Immigration Program Management roles that focus on local engagement management:

  • Assist in the development of new local immigration opportunities, including assisting with proposals, preparing pricing proposals, participating in client presentations, and conducting demonstrations of process and technology.

  • Drive implementation and transition procedures for new local engagements including developing project plan, establishing engagement-specific processes and protocols, and training/coordinating the team.

  • Drive services integration with other EY teams, including Global Mobility Tax, and PAS Advisory.

  • Manage, drive and co-ordinate the day-to-day activity of local immigration engagements including managing escalations and serving as a point of contact for the corporate client or client’s VIP employees.

  • Monitor and manage client expectations and EY deliverables to agreed Key Performance Indicators.

  • Manage and deliver weekly/quarterly/annual meetings with the corporate client.

  • Manage and deliver reports and analytics to the corporate client.

  • Manage and deliver consolidated monthly billing to the corporate client.

  • Manage and implement continuous improvement on the local engagement including technology enablement, streamlining of process, and automation.

  • Own, drive and manage assigned continuous improvement projects for national practice.

  • Effective financial management of assigned engagements including staff utilization, WIP management, expense management, revenue, margin, and collections.

  • Drafting/reviewing complex matters.

Core responsibilities for Immigration Program Management roles that focus on immigration operations functional management:

  • Ownership and management of a key immigration operations function such as: client acceptance, independence, quality/risk management, office administration, off-shore teaming, near-shore teaming, process improvement, process automation, technology enablement, financial management, learning & development, business development and branding enablement, reporting and analytics, etc.

Core responsibilities for all Program Management roles:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of EY’s service offerings (particularly within PAS) and identify opportunities to cross-sell services.

  • Act as a career counsellor to assigned Staff, Seniors and Supervising Seniors.

  • Mentor, train and coach more junior team members – including reviewing work product.

  • Manage delegated work and maintain effective workloads of assigned team.

  • Act as a technical resource in core area of Subject Matter Expertise.

  • Participate in recruitment and hiring.

  • Develop staffing plan, team structure and margin model for assigned team.

Skills and attributes for success :

  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree. Preference for degrees in immigration studies, law, business, communications, public administration, technology, analytics, finance or other discipline related to the core responsibilities of the Immigration Program Manager.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience – client service experience is essential.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint, INSZoom, Spotfire, and/or Microsoft Power BI an asset but not required.

  • Certification in Project Management an asset.
