BMC is led globally by Karen Hopkins. The function is made up of around 2,000 professionals, working across the Executive and Regions in the following areas of specialism: Brand; Marketing; PR/Media Relations & External Communications; Internal Communications &Employee Engagement; Corporate communications.

BMC also includes a number of teams who are responsible for content development, editorial, webcasts, events-staging, strategy, planning and operations. Through the collective power of BMC, and the other teams and specialists we work with, we aim to build a better working world by driving commercial value through distinctive marketing and communications that deliver measurable market impact.

Position Summary:

The Commercial and Innovation Leader will be ultimately responsible for the CR function’s external interface, leveraging external relationships and market knowledge to provide innovation, insights and challenge to the CR agenda. They will represent EY and our ambition to the market, positioning the organization at the relevant international fora, responding to global public policy positioning and working with market facing teams to pursue opportunities for business development and proposition.

The role holder will also develop and manage the function’s third party collaborator strategy, leading the identification, management and evaluation of global collaborators, ensuring they are additive from both impact and reputational perspectives. These third parties will include network bodies, NGOs and other civil society organizations, foundations, impact investors, multi-lateral agencies and our clients.

This is a visible leadership position and an opportunity to lead, inspire and execute on EY’s CR goals. The role holder should demonstrate a true passion for driving sustainable and inclusive growth, using their position to connect change-makers across our business and networks while channeling their knowledge, skills and experience to tackle some of society’s toughest challenges.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Bring (and maintain) a strong awareness of leading practice, market insights and emerging trends across the sustainability agenda and organizational priorities such as impact entrepreneurship and next generation

  • Make significant and sustained contributions to the EY Inclusive Growth vision and CR functional strategy based on external insights, networks and experience

  • Develop a strategic, commercial approach to go-to-market propositions and business development initiatives relating to sustainability, impact entrepreneurship and the next generation, ultimately demonstrating return on investment for EY

  • Lead idea generation and the development of innovative commercial solutions that could enable the scaling of EY’s CR program and increase participation and impact

  • Leverage external network to test new ideas and initiatives with the market

  • Collaborate with service line, account and industry/sector leaders to identify opportunities for collaboration with non-audit clients and alliances

  • Convene market-facing teams to collaborate on high potential client and social impact opportunities (e.g. Growth Markets, Women. Fast forward, Beacon Institute)

  • Develop a third party collaborator strategy that will support the EY Inclusive Growth vision and CR functional strategy

  • Collaborate with Delivery and market SMRs to lead demand generation activities that build a sufficient pipeline of opportunities to support the function’s strategic priorities

  • Define transparent processes and guidelines for the identification, engagement, selection and management of third party collaborators for both globally- and locally-owned relationships. In particular:

  • Oversee contractual agreements, ensuring compliance with organization-wide risk, legal and independence requirements

  • Regularly review the momentum and outcome of partnerships against agreed objectives

  • Ensure service quality is monitored and maintained where partnerships are predominantly service-based

  • Facilitate opportunities for open feedback and dialogue between EY and third party collaborators

  • Identify opportunities to build capability and share best practice with third party collaborators

  • Manage the negotiation, settlement and administration of financial obligations to global third party collaborators

  • Identify and manage emerging third party or commercial risks

  • Support the localization of third party collaborator relationships as appropriate

  • Build and manage a market leading external network. This network should:

  • Connect EY to market recognized professional bodies, academics and thought leaders

  • Generate exceptional opportunities for EY to join and lead world-class collaborations that drive and attract investment into the global inclusive growth agenda

  • Create opportunities for EY to showcase our work in leading external forums, conferences etc.

  • Amplify EY’s voice on sustainability, impact entrepreneurship and next generation related topics via external platforms, thought leadership, response to public consultations etc.

  • Represent EY at senior level fora through participation in external conferences, events, meetings etc.

  • Activate external network to act as a convener of key influencers and organizations on behalf of EY as appropriate

Knowledge, Competency and Skill Requirements:

  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of the corporate responsibility and sustainability agenda / external landscape

  • Excellent understanding of competitor strategy, market insights and commercial trends, particularly at the intersections of multinational corporations, impact investing and civil society

  • Display the credibility, gravitas and authenticity to engage and build collaborative, high profile relationships with thought leaders and C-suite level executives in the market

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with a proven ability to negotiate third party contracts and agreements effectively

  • Ability to work collaboratively with leading corporate responsibility / sustainability practitioners to form partnerships and import leading-edge insights and models to EY

  • Innovative thinker with a strong interest in developing and executing new strategies to achieve and exceed our ambition

  • Demonstrable understanding of global business fundamentals, business models, ethics, competitive analysis and cross-cultural/geographical sensitivities

  • Ability to work across geographies and cultures, navigate complexity and lead virtual teams

  • Ability to navigate complexity and deliver significant change using personal style, influencing skills and change methodologies

Supervision Responsibilities:

  • Supervises a team of professionals in the Commercial and Innovation pillar of the Global CR function

  • Motivates team members through effective monitoring, coaching, counselling and providing a positive working environment

Other Requirements:

  • There are currently no restrictions on where this role can be based

  • Global travel may be required pending business needs

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent area of study or experience)

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience leading commercial solutions or business development activity in a professional services firm

  • Experience managing and evaluating a portfolio of global partners and suppliers

  • Experience building relationships with senior stakeholders / influencers including board members, corporate executives, and government, multilateral, NGO and civil society leaders

  • Experience leading diverse and virtual high-performance teams
