The Digital Content Editor (DCE) is an experienced content creator and expert substantive and copy editor who edits and refines customer-facing digital content for optimal knowledge transfer and a quality learner/user experience.
S/he is detail-oriented and responsible for ensuring a high level of content accuracy and quality as well as for ensuring a consistent writing and illustration voice appropriate for the identified audience, user-group or learner.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Maintain editorial excellence:
Understand internal and external customer needs ensuring that all content meets client and user/learner objectives and needs in terms of both copy and structure.
Work within a dynamic content authoring and delivery system, accessing, managing, storing and tagging all edited content appropriately and accurately
Ensure that content is accurate and consistent and adheres to EY/Catalyst style guides and brand standards (and all QC/QA checklists)
Edit content for both UK and US audiences, ensuring that the required grammar and spelling rules are meticulously applied
Ensure that there are no errors in copy or content by verifying facts, dates and statistics, raising queries with the author where required
Proofreads and corrects errors in grammar, syntax, style, language, and structure to ensure content is well written, logically structured and aligned to the prescribed Catalyst Solution and/or client style and tone
Maintain consistency of copy and content by ensuring that there is no repetition, contradiction or ambiguity, and resolving these queries where necessary with the author/s.
Be alert to any potential legal problems in the text such as libellous statements, breach of copyright, or unauthorised use of client material, raising these with the author/s.
Give input to QA or the Content Lead, to adjust the EY/Catalyst style guides and QC/QA standards and checklist where necessary ensuring these documents remain relevant, useful and comprehensive.
Check consistency and accuracy of all elements within prescribed structural frameworks and templates (layout, icons, sidebars, references, headings, bullets, page numbering, descriptions, summaries, tags, images, rich content, screenshots, covers etc.)
Write captions, headlines, sub-headings and introductions when required
Contribute towards content development by conceptualising and generate fresh ideas at internal and (where necessary) external meetings
Work well with and build positive and productive relationships with internal/external clients and subject matter experts at all levels and across all regions
Collaborate with team members supporting the content development and production teams to produce high-quality work to brief and to standard required, on time and within budget
Handle client (internal and external) communications with professionalism and friendliness
Manage production by maintaining efficient and focused use of time on tight schedules, alerting the Content Lead or Programme Manager to any potential disruptions to deadlines
Analytical and Decision making Responsibilities
- Ability to analyse and make decisions regarding the quality and standard of content, making the necessary edits but also where required, reverting sub-standard or misaligned content back to authors with clear briefs to rewrite.
5–7 years of experience writing/creating and editing business, educational and/or technical content. Experience in the publishing industry beneficial
Experience editing a diverse range of materials, such as features, technical articles, white papers, marketing articles, presentations, educational materials, tutorials, newsletters, scripts and wikis
Experience working in a fast-paced technical environment essential
Experience and/or an interest in technology, business, e-learning, self-development and the digital sphere will be advantageous.
Expert-level knowledge of online and print publishing processes and tools beneficial
Familiarity with dynamic content authoring and delivery systems beneficial
Experience editing content for both US and UK publications and audiences beneficial
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
Outstanding editorial skills, accuracy, consistency and keen attention to detail.
Outstanding command of the English language – ideally both US and UK English: impeccable writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation and proofreading skills
Ability to work to brief and spec
Highly organised, with proficient liaison skills (high level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills)
Ability to review content as an educator or coach, and intuitively understand what the target audiences need to know, plus the delivery methods best suited to how they want to/are able to consume information
Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise assignments, ensuring project execution to deadlines with high accountability and follow-through
Excellent collaboration skills: able to work well with colleagues at all levels and across EY regions, and build great relationships with internal/external clients and subject matter experts
Essential:Bachelor’s degree in Languages (SpecificallyEnglish), Journalism, Media, Communications, Teaching (specifically Language) or related Communications field; or equivalent diploma/qualification
Essential: MS Office-type applications (including word processing and spreadsheet apps)
Beneficial: project management tools, and an understanding of HTML, XML or similar markup languages, as well as working in a dynamic content authoring and delivery system
- 5–7 years of experience writing/creating and editing business, educational and/or technical content.
