Project Manager

EY advises clients to understand, architect, select and implement bleeding edge solutions required to efficiently run their businesses, with a focus on Digital and Cloud. These service areas span E-commerce, Solution Architecture, Mobile Applications, Digital Platform Architecture, Digital Technology Strategy, and Digital IT Operations.

The opportunity

This is a rapidly growing area, so you will have plenty of opportunity to spread your wings and develop your skillset to keep up with the ever-growing demands of the digital landscape. Most of your time will be spent embedded with our client teams and we'll look to you to provide our clients with a unique business perspective on how they must continue to innovate and remain competitive in this ever changing industry.

Your key responsibilities

You will be responsible for the delivery of end-to-end digital solutions, focusing on overall quality and health while serving as a trusted advisor to the client. You will provide strategic direction to the team and work with other discipline leads to translate the client's vision into reality.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Working in project teams through agreed upon phases of project governance, requirements definition, vendor selection, risk analysis, customization, testing, training and rollout of a client's project lifecycle

  • Leading team members in developing applicable methodologies, tools, approaches, points of view, thought leadership and accelerators to differentiate EY in the Digital and Emerging Technology Consulting market

  • Teaming with client technology professionals, and third-party strategic alliances

  • Contract management - Tracking progress against commitments outlined in formal Statements of Work (SOWs)

  • Budget management - Reviewing engagement economics and operations (budget tracking, deliverable tracking, resource planning, etc.)

  • Risk management - Managing Risks, Actions, Issues, and Decisions (RAID)

  • Servant Leader – Must be able to garner respect from his/her team and be willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done

  • Communicative and social – Must be able to communicate well with teams

  • Facilitative – Must be able to lead and demonstrate value-add principles to a team

  • Assertive – Must be able to ensure Agile/Scrum concepts and principles are adhered to, must be able to be a voice of reason and authority, make the tough calls.

  • Situationally Aware – Must be the first to notice differences and issues as they arise and elevate them to management

  • Continual improvement – Must continually be growing one's craft learning new tools and techniques to manage oneself and a team

  • Conflict resolution – Must be able to facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approaches

  • Developing long-term relationships and networks both internally and externally

  • Interacting and communicating effectively with teammates, clients, stakeholders, and executives

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A Bachelor's degree and 3 or more years of related work experience

  • Good skills and knowledge of facilitation, continuous improvement, empowerment, transparency and servant leadership

  • Experience in project, program, and portfolio management as well as strong understanding of product management and product delivery

  • Knowledge of Agile approaches – Kanban, Scrum, XP, etc.

  • Knowledge and experience with Agile techniques – Automated Testing, User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Testing, Pairing, Agile Games, etc.

  • Experience managing multiple teams, combined teams (internal & external)

  • Demonstrated ability to manage client expectations and adjust to reality

  • Must be able to facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approaches

  • Understand basic fundamentals of iterative development

  • Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics

  • Understand backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition

  • Familiarity with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments, and better development practices

  • Guide and coach the team and organization to follow Agile/Scrum practices

  • Guide and coach the team to become self-organized

  • Improve transparency within the team

  • Guide the team to find the right person within the organization that can help them

  • Build a safe and trusting environment where conflicts can be managed in a healthy way without fear of blame

  • Be responsible for supporting and coaching the Product Owner on Agile/Scrum practices

  • Project team timelines based on capacity planning aligned to the product roadmap

  • Deliver team-based metrics aligned to the program's reporting structure

  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills, coupled with a strong interest in further developing and integrating enterprise business processes with technology skills

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Degree emphasis in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering, MIS, Mathematics desired; Master's degree in one of these areas preferred

  • Certifications highly preferred (PMP, Scrum Master, SAFe, etc.)
